We’re looking for an Architectural Designer who takes pride in the quality and punctuality in their designs. The Architectural Designer - PMC is tasked with bringing a client’s building concept and vision to life by creating presentation level schematic drawings and renderings for our permanent modular construction projects.
This position works hand in hand with our PMC business development team and reports directly to the General Manager, PMC. This is an in-office position based in Calgary, AB.
What Our Permanent Modular Construction (PMC) Team Does
The PMC Team is a business unit within ATCO Structures that focuses specifically on applying modular methodologies to projects that would otherwise employ more conventional construction methods. The PMC Team’s primary focus is on housing but also supports commercial, industrial, education and healthcare projects across Canada.

The PMC Team’s primary focus is on housing but also supports commercial, industrial, education and healthcare projects across Canada.
We are looking for a candidate who can:
- Apply their creative skills and balance with a functional design approach.
- Provide timely delivery of presentation level drawings that conform to the Building Code while particularly addressing the client’s requirements.
- Coordinate with other disciplines (electrical, mechanical, civil, structural) to make suggestions on system types all while promoting the principles of modular construction.
- Develop and maintain a catalogue of standard design configurations.
- Operate within ISO Quality system and the company safety policy.
- Work with several internal stakeholders that will have downstream influence into your creations to ensure that all inputs are addressed with the aim of ensuring a functional design.
- Assist with developing a product-specific BIM library for use by the design team.
- High degree of proficiency with REVIT. Proficient with Autodesk products and BIM360 an asset.
- Minimum 5 years of Residential, Commercial, or Modular Design experience as an Architectural Technologist.
- Familiarity with modular and/or pre-engineered building technologies is an asset.
- Wood construction/design experience is a must. Steel construction/design experience is an asset.
- A topical knowledge of the Canadian Building Codes and a good understanding of engineering and building system principles.
- Basic knowledge of Energy Codes (9.36 and NECB) preferred.
- A strong understanding of multidiscipline building design systems, building specifications, site inspection and general construction protocol.
- Superior organizational, interpersonal, and planning skills with attention to detail and strong communication skills.
- Self-starter and works well under pressure and within a team atmosphere.
- Proficient in using PDFs, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
