The Professional Women’s Hockey League is seeking an experienced and passionate individual for the position of Head Athletic Therapist with PWHL Vancouver. The Head Athletic Trainer will serve as the primary liaison amongst the medical team, sports performance staff, coaching personnel, and management to ensure the integrated care, health, wellness, and game performance and readiness of all players.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • First line emergency responder for player safety during game and practice injuries including head/spine trauma, airway compromise, hemorrhagic emergencies, and cardiac issues.
  • Daily coordination of player health and wellness within a multi-disciplinary team comprised of the medical director, medical consultants, sports performance specialists, physical therapists, coaching staff, and management.
  • Maintain accurate medical records of players health using the league-designated EMR platform, Teamworks AMS.
  • Staying current and compliant with all medical standards including turning in required documents to the PWHL within deadlines.
  • Leading a team of assistant athletic trainers who are focused on providing elite level of care for the health, wellness, and safety of the players.
  • Handle player injuries and evaluate the players’ condition during every practice and game and proactively problem solve to mitigate injury risks by implementing training protocols and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years full-time experience (within the past 5 years) in elite hockey, defined as a Head or Assistant Athletic Trainer/Therapist in professional, major junior or college/university level.
  • Be certified by either the National Athletic Trainers Association - Board of Certification - Athletic Training (NATA-BOC) or the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA)
  • Must hold current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS); Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Sports First Responder certifications are preferred.
  • A strong understanding of The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) in the United States and The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) in Canada.
  • Maintain the educational and licensure requirements to practice Athletic Training in state or province located.
  • Must maintain HIPPA compliance.
  • Ability to create and communicate emergency action plans.

Skills, Abilities & Other Attributes

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to demonstrate clear, concise articulation of scenarios, options, risks, mitigations, and recommendations.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate effectively to treat each player.
  • Experience with Teamworks AMS would be considered an asset.
  • Proven ability to work efficiently, effectively, and calmly under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage priorities and coordinate tasks to solve day-to-day challenges.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work within a team structure and collaborate.

Salary range for this role is $80,000 - $95,000 CAD
