Transforming Systems for Refugees Through Meaningful Refugee Participation in Latin America The challenges facing refugees and forcibly displaced people in Latin America—and globally—are more pressing than ever. Systems are strained, and the need for inclusive, transformative solutions has never been greater. As a leading global refugee-led organization (RLO) driving systemic change, Refugees Seeking Equal Access at the Table (R-SEAT) works to operationalize meaningful refugee participation as a tool to enhance the responses of the global refugee system. This work is not easy. It requires resilience, innovation, and unwavering commitment. Over the past three years, R-SEAT has been reshaping the global system to ensure refugees have a meaningful role in the processes which shape their lives.

Now, we’re seeking a Latin America Regional Lead who is passionate, entrepreneurial, relationship-driven, and deeply knowledgeable about the region’s challenges and opportunities.

This role is based in Mexico, Colombia, or Brazil, and candidates must have lived experience of forced displacement. Please note: Only applicants based in Mexico, Colombia, or Brazil who have lived experience of forced displacement will be considered.

<<<Applications not meeting these criteria will not be processed>>>

If you are ready to take a lead in this movement and create lasting impact, we want to hear from you! About R-SEAT R-SEAT is an international RLO working to enhance the effectiveness of global refugee responses by codesigning transparent, structured, and institutionalized refugee advisory mechanisms. These mechanisms amplify and activate refugee leadership ecosystems and increase the participation of refugees at state levels in a meaningful, sustainable, and transformative way.

Our work centers on three key pillars:

1. Engage: R-SEAT collaborates with strategic partners, including building capacity and securing commitments from governments, to establish refugee advisory mechanisms at the national level. These mechanisms institutionalize meaningful refugee participation in the global refugee system, as a tool to enhance its outcomes and responses.

2. Amplify: R-SEAT shifts the narrative surrounding RLOs and refugee leaders, positioning them as critical, respected, and recognized partners in shaping refugee responses at all levels.

3. Connect: R-SEAT facilitates dynamic connections between refugees, RLOs, and other stakeholders such as private philanthropy, governments, and INGOs, creating a reciprocal network that promotes knowledge-sharing and resource mobilization.

As the Regional Lead, you will spearhead R-SEAT’s mission in Latin America by:

• Building Community: Organizing and inspiring regional and national groups of refugee leaders to advance refugee advisory mechanisms.

• Representing R-SEAT: Acting as our representative to governments, funders, UNHCR, civil society, and refugee communities and RLOs across the region.

• Fostering Partnerships: Identifying, building, and maintaining relationships with key actors, including government officials, to strengthen refugee participation in governance.

• Connecting Globally: Collaborating with colleagues in Geneva and New York, ensuring our Latin America work remains aligned with UN global refugee policy processes.

• Strategizing advocacy for Impact: Supporting the development of advocacy strategies to grow RSEAT’s presence and goals for refugee participation in Latin America.

• Event planning and management: organizing, coordinating logistics, managing budgets, and ensuring successful implementation of events in the region.

We want someone bold, visionary, and driven to create meaningful change.

You must:

• Have lived experience of forced displacement. Please refer to R-SEAT’s definition of lived experience of forced displacement: https://www.instagram.com/refugeesseat/

• Be based in Mexico, Brazil or Colombia.

• Be passionate about refugee issues and skilled at building communities.

• Have strong advocacy and organizing experience.

• Are a fluent and professional communicator in both English and Spanish. Proficiency in Portuguese is a strong asset.

• Have a strong knowledge and/or experience of regional forced displacement processes and initiatives in Latin America, such as the Cartagena Declaration and MIRPS (Comprehensive Regional Protection and Solutions Framework).

• Are familiar with global governance structures and global refugee initiatives such as the Global Compact for Refugees and the Global Refugee Forum.

• Able to travel regionally, and preferably internationally.

• Embrace flexibility and thrive in a remote-work environment.

• Have strong leadership skills, be self-motivated, and take initiative and ownership over tasks and outcomes.

What We Offer:

1. A chance to lead a transformative movement in a fast-growing, mission-driven organization.

2. A full-time position with a competitive salary aligned with the market rates for managerial or senior managerial roles in the applicant’s country of residence, ensuring equity and recognition of experience and qualifications.

3. A flexible working environment.

4. A supportive global team committed to the meaningful participation of refugees, reimagining global systems, and aiming to create better responses for refugees globally.
