Summary:
DMC is currently looking for a Longhole Driller (Underground), to join our team on a fulltime contrat basis, based on our project sites in Ontario. The Longhole Driller & Blaster is responsible for executing safe and efficient longhole (production) drilling and blasting operations in an underground mine. This includes preparing, drilling, loading, and blasting holes for ore extraction using Stopemaster and Stopemate drill rigs, while following engineering plans, site safety procedures, and productivity targets.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct pre-operational inspections of equipment and assess ground conditions and work area safety.
- Review and interpret engineered drill layouts and ensure accurate hole placement and orientation.
- Operate Stopemaster and Stopemate rigs to drill production holes, drop raises, and slot raises to designated depths and angles.
- Clean and flush drilled holes in preparation for loading.
- Load blast holes with explosives and accessories in accordance with regulatory standards and company policies.
- Initiate blasts following safe work protocols and site-specific blasting procedures.
- Perform post-blast inspections, assess results, and document outcomes.
- Complete shift reports, drill logs, and records of deviations or abnormalities encountered.
- Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams including technical services, surveyors, supervisors, and other underground personnel.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas, and ensure compliance with site housekeeping standards.
- Identify and report mechanical or operational issues to maintenance teams for prompt resolution.
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental protocols including ventilation, PPE usage, and emergency response procedures.
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2–5 years of underground drilling experience with Stopemaster and/or Stopemate rigs.
- Completion of relevant Ontario Underground Common Core modules (e.g., U0000–U0012 and U0090/U0070).
- Blasting certification as per provincial regulations (Ontario surface/underground blasting license).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and experience working with hydraulic drilling systems.
- Ability to read and interpret drilling layouts, prints, and technical instructions.
- Physically fit and capable of working in challenging underground environments.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to work rotational shifts.
