Hiring – Nature-based Early Childhood Educator
This position will be full time (Monday-Friday) between the hours of 8am-4 or 430pm at our Grimsby, ON location.
Requirements
- Early Childhood Educator, OCT
- Forest school practitioner, degree in environmental sciences, outdoor education or equivalent experience working in an outdoor program an asset.
- CPR/ First Aid Certified
- Vulnerable Sector Police Clearance (valid within 6 months)
- Up to date immunization records
- Reliable transportation
- Being familiar with and supporting the Forest School Canada’s guide, FOREST AND NATURE SCHOOL IN CANADA: A Head, Heart, Hands Approach to Outdoor Learning.
- Supporting the group twice a week for nature immersion (offsite).
- Being familiar with and supporting “How Does Learning Happen? Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years”.
- Recognizes and responds to the needs of each child by using developmentally appropriate teaching and child behaviour management techniques (FLIP It).
- Demonstrates an above and beyond commitment to the development and safety of children in our care, and is familiar with and comfortable facilitating an environment that supports risky play as described in the FOREST AND NATURE SCHOOL IN CANADA: A Head, Heart, Hands Approach to Outdoor Learning guide.
- Responsible for planning and implementing age-appropriate 3 teacher directed opportunities each week that encourage children’s creativity and learning and promote each child’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical development while referencing the development binder.
- Responsible for adding to the specified zones in the indoor and outdoor environments each week to enhance the environments.
- Participates and/or leads in the ongoing learning and development of children through lesson planning, attendance, and other documentation.
- Responsible for writing your portion of the weekly updates and observations and creating the weekly collages to support these updates. Ensuring these are submitted on time by the deadline predetermined by Directors.
- Shared responsibility for monthly planning and ensuring this is handed in on time by the deadline predetermined by Directors.
- Works in a collaborative and team-oriented manner, and maintains regular and open communication with partnered educators and all other team members.
- Enthusiasm working with children outdoors in all weather.
- Performs other duties as requested by the Director of Preschool Programs.
- Builds and maintains appropriate relationships with parents and supports an open environment of communication regarding their child’s day.
