Reporting to the Commissioner of Corporate Services, Oakville’s Director of Human Resources provides strategic leadership and advocacy for human resources policies and programs that support the Town of Oakville’s vision, Council’s strategic priorities and the Town’s People Plan building the future, together.
The Director leads and inspires a high-performing human resources team providing exemplary client services and subject matter expertise across a diverse array of service areas such as talent acquisition, performance management, learning & development, organizational development, workforce planning, health, safety & wellness, total rewards, employee recognition, employee & labour relations, and HR metrics & technology. A key member of the Town’s senior leadership team, the Director contributes in a highly collaborative environment to enable talent and leadership excellence while fostering a culture of safety, wellness and belonging through supporting leaders across the organization in building capability, navigating change, and fostering accountability and continuous improvement.
As an ideal candidate, you bring a university degree in a relevant field preferably coupled with a professional HR designation that enables you to provide HR expertise and strategic advice. Your demonstrated leadership in municipal or the broader public sector exemplifies your strong political acumen, professionalism, and commitment to service. You are a trusted advisor with a proven track record of aligning HR strategy with business goals in a complex and dynamic environment. You are highly respected for your ability to influence, build strong relationships within and outside of an organization, lead transformational change, and drive innovation. A results-oriented, empathetic and engaged leader with progressive experience in a large, unionized environment, you are innately collaborative and demonstrate a strong commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility. You have led and motivated high-performing and multi-disciplinary professional HR teams where accountability, responsiveness, business partnership and service excellence have been a cornerstone.
