Horizon is seeking an open, enthusiastic, experienced Senior Engineering Lead – Design & Aerostructures. Your role involves developing our platform’s mechanical systems and team capability. You will lead the technical activities to develop products, expertise, tools, and methods in these areas for both developmental and certified aircraft.
As we’re a small team, there is significant scope for you to advance your career and learn about adjacent disciplines.

You will be one of the first Senior Engineering Leads to join us, which provides significant latitude in developing our working methods alongside needs of developing the platform.

Location.
We are located just outside of Lindsay, in the Kawartha Lakes area of Ontario, Canada. Our team is onsite at our facility, as a group, a minimum of two days per week. We expect the same from you, and we are mindful of what a realistic commute would be to keep you safe and at your best. We offer relocation allowances in appropriate cases.

You will lead the technical activities to develop products, expertise, tools, and methods in these areas for both developmental and certified aircraft.

Your Day- To-Day
- Act as a leader and role model with the engineering team to participate in the definition of the mission, vision, and goals for the department. Plan and lead in the execution of those goals
- Lead and develop the Design & Aerostructures disciplines, including hands on work with the product design. Design and implement the platform architectures of mechanical systems from aircraft to component level
- Support other individuals and teams with your expertise in structural design, composites, stress analysis, PLM development and configuration management
- Hands on work with product development. Architect, Design and implement the platform architectures of mechanical systems from aircraft to component level
- Design structural and mechanical components for critical aircraft systems including fuselage, propulsion mounts, landing gear, and system housings
- Select and specify materials (e.g., advanced composites, aluminum alloys, titanium, high-performance polymers) based on strength, weight, thermal, and durability considerations
- Support development from concept through detailed design, prototyping, testing, and release to production
- Optimize structures for strength, stiffness, fatigue, and thermal performance
- Interface with suppliers to validate material choices, manufacturing methods, and fabrication constraints
- Participate in failure investigations and root cause analyses to resolve material or mechanical performance issues
- Support the identification and creation of training content, continuous improvement, and process guidance material
- Develop the test infrastructure to verify the platform
- Partnerships: Identify and establish strategic partnerships with external organizations, research institutions, and industry experts to leverage expertise, enhance knowledge sharing, and support collaborative research and development efforts
- Regulatory Compliance: Remain fully up to speed with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, CATIA V6, and 3DExperience platform is a plus.
