The Edmonton Police Service is seeking an adaptable individual with strong interpersonal skills to perform diverse administrative and legal secretarial duties and act as a personal assistant to a visually impaired lawyer (“the lawyer”). The successful candidate will work closely with the lawyer and responsibilities of this position include:

  • Providing general office services for the lawyer, including but not limited to, responding to emails, answering telephone calls, and maintaining the lawyer’s diary dates, files and calendar.
  • Assisting the lawyer by reading aloud and transcribing correspondence and legal materials.
  • Conducting legal research, compiling and presenting legal materials for the lawyer’s review.
  • Preparing for, and attending, meetings, court appearances and teaching engagements to take notes and provide general assistance.
  • Assist with the monitoring of incoming internal EPS inquires and inquiries from external lawyers.
  • Performing a preliminary review of documents to provide background and support information.
  • eneral assistance to the lawyer in performing routine tasks, assistance in navigating and other duties as required.


Qualifications:

  • Completion of the twelfth (12th) school grade.GED.
  • Successful completion of a related Office Assistant; Legal Major, Certificate program from an approved business school/college. A Legal Assistant/Paralegal Diploma will also be considered.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in working as a Legal Assistant.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and work closely with others.
  • Ability to function effectively under the pressure of a fast-paced work environment with changing priorities.


Hours of Work:

40 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.

Salary Range:

21B, Salary Grade: 013, $27.069 - $33.943 (Hourly), $2,165.50 - $2,715.40 (Bi-Weekly), $56,520.07 - $70,872.98 (Annually). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
