AtkinsRealis has exciting full-time career opportunities for junior Telecom Engineers who have just graduated. Based out of our Vancouver office, our Telecom Engineers are primarily responsible for the delivery of telecommunication engineering design with focus in the areas of microwave radio link design, high speed fiber optics link design as well as IP/MPLS based local and wide area networks for our high voltage transmission line and substation projects.

The Junior Telecom Engineer is required to work within a multi-discipline team to design efficient and reliable telecommunication facilities.The engineer will coordinate his/her design activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion.

This position is accountable to provide all design activities in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including all AtkinsRealis’s policies and procedures, such as Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance and Quality Control.

Your Role Within The Team

Additional accountabilities for the Junior Telecom Engineer include:

  • Design of telecommunication facilities including Microwave and UHF radio links, fiber optic transmission links including the cable (ADSS and OPGW), SONET & SDH/TDM multiplex systems, IP/MPLS Network systems, teleprotection, VSAT systems, cable protection systems, telecom power systems and telecom towers & antennas.
  • Delivery of accurate and thorough designs that will meet industry standards and specifications as well as meet good engineering practices with excellent constructability.
  • Resolving site queries, attending site meetings and performing site inspections during the construction phase of projects.
  • Maintaining complete project documentation with respect to telecom design and construction, including all completion packages, as-built requirements and return data information.
  • Making and maintaining appropriate commitments to project teams and coordinating design activities with multi-disciplined project team members.
  • Maintaining good working relationships with internal groups that support projects such as procurement, project management, etc.

The Ideal Candidate

  • A degree in Telecom or Electrical Engineering (with majors in Telecom) from a recognized institution.
  • Coop experience is an advantage.
  • Strong self-learning skills.
  • A high level of interpersonal communication skills in a team environment.
  • Occasional travel to site locations is required.
