Job Description
The Marine Group Assistant Controller is responsible for consolidated segment financial accounting, adherence to Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE), and for conduct of accounting processes and procedures. This includes preparing and reviewing consolidated segment financial statements, reviewing general ledger reconciliations, integrity, and accuracy of the general ledger, and driving accurate ledgers for balance sheet and profit and loss accounts for the Marine Group. As the lead of the annual audit process, the incumbent in this role identifies areas of weakness and develops compensating processes and revise procedures.
Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.

What You'll Do
- Leads team of accounting professionals, managing priorities, goals, and development plans.
- Leads monthly close, consolidate and report processes and achieves fast close for all Marine Group companies. Produces month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial reporting package.
- Leads the annual audit process including audit planning review, schedule review and final audit reports.
- Develops framework and performs audits of financial data to ensure accuracy.
- Manages the account reconciliation process. Drives standards for account reconciliations, and monthly financial reporting.
- Prepares documentation of Standard Operating Procedures and internal controls.
- Implements new or updated procedures and all other financial matters of the organization.
- Seeks continuous improvement for finance processes, makes recommendations for improvements, implements recommendations and monitors compliance.
- Keeps abreast of regulatory requirements and best practices in accounting.
- Ensures compliance with internal controls and recommends improvements.
- Responsible for ensuring adherence to company accounting policies and ASPE standards.
- Support Systems implementation projects and owns financial processes and the data model development/maintenance for each company.
- Leads standardization of financial reporting data and supporting documentation. Designs and maintains standard reports.
- Prepares accounting memos to document and support analysis and decisions.
- Performs additional duties as required.
- Undergraduate degree in Business or Finance.
- Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA).
- Minimum 7 years of managerial experience leading people and projects in progressively senior positions; preferably with controllership experience.
- Experience working within large, complex organizations, demonstrating the ability to navigate and contribute effectively in multifaceted environments.
- Experience in Canadian ASPE consolidation for financial reporting, payroll, costing/allocations, Enterprise resource planning (ERP), data mining applications (Business Intelligence preferred), and other financial system conversions, upgrades or implementation is an asset.
- Knowledge of ERP and/or In-depth knowledge of big data and data analytical systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) with advanced knowledge of Excel.
- Presentation and reporting skills, including the ability to communicate with others with tact and diplomacy.
- Attention to detail, problem solving, negotiating and analytical skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure while being adaptable and open-minded to change and improvements.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with drive to deliver on priority items.
- Interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and consistently.
