Job Title: Network Engineer

Location: AutoCanada Head Office – West Edmonton

About The Role

As a Network Engineer, you will be a key member of our Network Support providing exceptional support to our internal teams. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, and security of our network, server and cloud infrastructure, ensuring its reliability, performance, and protection against evolving cyber threats. We are an internal team that is able to focus on a single network and we believe this allows us to build a secure, stable, and scalable network across all of our stores in the US and Canada. This role requires a strong technical aptitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and a customer-centric approach. This is an in-office role with some flexibility to work remotely with prior approval from a manager. 

Responsibilities

  • Network Design and Implementation: Design, configure, and implement secure and efficient network infrastructure, including LANs, WANs, WLANs, VPNs, and firewalls.
  • Security Integration: Integrate security best practices and technologies into network designs and configurations from the outset.
  • Network Monitoring and Maintenance: Proactively monitor network performance, identify potential bottlenecks, and perform necessary maintenance and upgrades to ensure optimal operation and security.
  • Firewall and Intrusion Prevention: Configure, manage, and monitor firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and other security appliances.
  • Incident Handling: Participate in incident response activities related to network security breaches and work to contain, eradicate, and recover from incidents.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of network configurations, security policies, and incident response procedures.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other IT teams, including security operations, systems administration, and application development, to ensure a cohesive and secure IT environment.
  • Staying Current: Continuously research and stay up-to-date on the latest network technologies, security trends, and best practices. Participate in knowledge base content creation and maintenance 
  • Assist with the deployment and maintenance of IT equipment and software as part of our Project Management Office when stores are being upgraded or integrated 
  • Pitch in on Server Team projects when Network Team is not busy 
  • Participate in on-call rotation as required as the network escalation point 

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a technical support role 
  • Proven experience configuring and managing network security devices such as firewalls (e.g., Cisco ASA, Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet), intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), VPNs, and content filtering solutions. Comfortable level of understanding of on-prem Windows Server and apps 
  • Solid understanding of security principles, frameworks, and best practices (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills 
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively 
  • Experience with ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow) is a plus 

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cyber security platforms (e.g, SIEM, MFA, XDR)
  • Experience with Cloud-based services (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) 
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) 
  • Experience supporting car dealerships or other automotive-related businesses. 
  • Experience supporting software applications 
  • Experience with CDK (Cox Automotive) systems 
  • Bilingual in English and French would be an asset worth mentioning 
  • Class 5 Driver’s License

  • Palo Alto Network Security Generalist 
  • Cisco CCNA or Meraki Solutions Specialist 
  • CompTIA Security+, CompTIA CySA+
  • Microsoft Certifications (e.g., Azure Associate) 
  • Google Certifications (e.g., Google IT Support Professional, Google Cybersecurity Professional Certificate)
