Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Power Line Technician to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of high and medium-voltage power lines and related equipment. This role plays a critical part in ensuring our transmission and distribution systems are fully operational, safe, and compliant with industry regulations and standards.

Key Responsibilities: A. Power Line Installation

  • Install overhead and underground power lines for high and medium voltage systems.
  • Set up new transmission and distribution lines per design specifications and project requirements.
  • Install and commission electrical components including transformers, circuit breakers, lightning arrestors, insulators, switches, and conductors.
  • Coordinate with Business Unit (BU) representatives to ensure proper system integration.
  • Install and test fiber optics on power lines and underground networks.

B. Power Line Maintenance & Repair

  • Inspect and maintain power lines, transformers, and distribution systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair faulty components and deficiencies.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and routine system checks.
  • Replace damaged equipment such as conductors, transformers, and switches.
  • Perform cable repair, splicing, and terminations as needed.

C. High Voltage Operations

  • Conduct live-line work using approved safety protocols and insulated tools.
  • Perform fault detection and switching operations on high-voltage circuits.
  • Maintain substations, switchgear, and associated high-voltage infrastructure.

D. Medium Voltage Operations

  • Install, test, and maintain medium-voltage systems (up to 33kV or 69kV).
  • Operate breakers, switches, and related distribution equipment.
  • Monitor system functionality through regular testing and inspection.

E. Safety and Regulatory Compliance

  • Adhere to all safety procedures including OSHA or local equivalent standards.
  • Conduct pre-job risk assessments and follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Participate in regular safety meetings and training sessions.
  • Identify and mitigate overhead and underground hazards in the work area.

Required Qualifications:

  • Journeyman Power Line Technician certification or equivalent.
  • Valid Class [insert applicable license] driver’s license with clean record.
  • Proven experience with high and medium-voltage line work.
  • Strong knowledge of safety protocols and applicable electrical codes (NEC, NESC, or local standards).
  • Ability to work at heights and in varying weather conditions.
  • Demonstrated competency in live-line procedures and energized equipment work.

Safety Requirements:

  • Use of full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including:
  • Arc flash suit
  • Rubber hot gloves
  • Fall protection harness
  • Flame-resistant (FR) clothing
  • Safety goggles and hard hats
  • Completion of safety training specific to high/medium-voltage environments.
  • Knowledge of emergency response procedures and first aid.
