Position Summary

The Port Interpretive Centre casual staff member will be the first point of contact at the Port Interpretive and Visitor Information Centre and will provide engaging education to visitors and community members about the Port’s history, operations and future through interactive displays and activities. This position will support day to day operation of the space, be accountable for leading tours, and support organizing community events and hosting activities in the space and in the community.

In addition, this position will provide visitor information services to guests and may provide visitor outreach to cruise ship passengers arriving in Prince Rupert. Other duties may involve supporting the community relations and public affairs teams on a variety of initiatives led by the Prince Rupert Port Authority.

Position Accountabilities

  • Welcomes and provides port interpretive and visitor services to all users of the space.
  • Leads port interpretive centre tours to visitors and stakeholder groups.
  • Assists with youth engagement activities.
  • Assists the public affairs team and organizes events for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • May perform other duties as signed.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Casual, part-time position.
  • Will require some evening and weekend work.
  • Port Interpretive Centre summer operational hours are seven days a week, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM and Winter (October-May) operating hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM– 4:30 PM.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Formal Education

  • Minimum high school diploma.
  • Post-secondary education or customer service training is an asset.

Related Experience

  • Experience working with the public in front-line customer service.

Other Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal, service and communication skills.
  • Great written communication skills.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and providing guided tours.
  • Sound knowledge of computers and proficiency in MS Office, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidential information.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Self-directed individual.
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Demonstrates commitment to the Port’s vision and mission.
  • Embraces and thrives on change.
  • Able to obtain security clearance under Transport Canada’s Security Clearance Program.
  • Possess a minimum valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.

The hourly rate for this role is $24.00
