Position Summary:
The HSE Coordinator is an integral part of the HSE team, reporting to the HSE Business Partner and providing support to the Manufacturing Plant and the Distribution Centre. The HSE Coordinator will assist with HSE projects and work together with the HSE Specialist to support the organizational goals by participating in HSE program development and implementation.
The role includes the maintenance and continuous improvement of our HSE Management Systems, along with compiling, analyzing, and communicating our HSE stats and KPIs.
Major responsibilities include:
- Maintain and create HSE Management System documents based on current regulatory requirements, including but not limited to policies and procedures, work instructions, training plans and information postings specific to the Canplas locations.
- Complete environmental reports as required by the Corporate HSE Department.
- Assist the Specialist, Supervisors and Managers with the application of HSE system requirements.
- Responsible for the management of worker’s compensation and return to work programs.
- Provide documents and direction to supervisors and managers regarding claims management.
- Develop, coordinate, and perform training activities including new employee HSE orientation.
- Proactively identify potential HSE hazards through Safety interactions, Gemba walks, inspections, and audits.
- Provide subject matter knowledge to department managers/supervisors to support the identification of HSE gaps and improvement opportunities and assist in development, implementation and monitoring of actions.
- Develop/support/participate in HSE program development and implementation.
- Maintain and update HSE Bulletin/Communication boards, SDS binders, Hazardous Materials Inventory, Near Miss Summary, and first aid room/kits.
- Prepare Safety talks and training materials for all departments.
- Prepare presentations and training materials for employee meetings and maintain records.
- Organize the schedule for planned inspections. Co-ordinate and maintain documentation of planned inspections.
- Lead JHSC meetings; prepare schedule, maintain minutes, action items and other related documents.
- Prepare monthly report on HSE system status, First Aids, Accident/Incidents JHSC activities.
- Perform review and update of all Accident/Incident investigations following the supervisors’ initial investigation.
- Support the HSE Specialist and Plant Manager in preparation of reportables and learning reviews.
- Track and follow up on GSII action items and update report.
- Conduct monthly corrective action review meetings.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education.
- Recognized formal training in one of: Health and Safety, or Environmental studies preferred.
- Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficient with numbers and technical aptitude.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Proficient using MS Office Products.
- Demonstrates high attention to detail, problem solving, teamwork, and presentation skills.
