ReCover is a forward-thinking non-profit organization based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, committed to transforming buildings into energy-efficient, sustainable spaces. ReCover helps building owners and communities identify, optimize, and implement deep retrofit solutions to enhance comfort, reduce energy consumption, and lower utility costs. As the deep retrofit accelerator for Atlantic Canada, we are creating alliances to transform the building sector in Atlantic Canada.
ReCover, a rapidly growing startup in the green economy, is seeking an Interim Executive Director to provide strong operational leadership and strategic execution during a maternity leave. This is a critical role for a highly strategic and resourceful leader who can drive the implementation of ReCover’s new strategic plan, with a key focus on achieving financial sustainability through commercial revenue streams. What You’ll Do:
Leadership & Operational Execution:
- Drive Strategic Plan Implementation: Lead the day-to-day execution of ReCover’s strategic plan, ensuring all operational activities are tightly aligned with organizational goals, particularly those focused on commercial revenue generation and financial sustainability.
- Team Leadership & Development: Inspire, manage, and develop a high-performing and engaged team, fostering a culture that embodies ReCover’s values. Provide clear direction, support, and mentorship to ensure team success.
- Adapt & Pivot: Navigate the evolving landscape of a growing startup, adapting strategies and operations as needed to overcome challenges and capitalize on new opportunities.
- Lead Through Transition: Maintain organizational stability and strategic progress during this interim period by fostering a clear documentation process and prioritizing continuity planning.
- Board Collaboration: Maintain a transparent and collaborative relationship with the Board of Directors, providing regular updates and reports on ReCover’s progress, operational challenges, and strategic plan execution.
Financial Sustainability & Business Development:
- Revenue Generation: Proactively identify, pursue, and secure diverse funding and commercial revenue opportunities to ensure ReCover’s financial health. This includes cultivating strong relationships with funders and partners, managing reporting requirements, and developing new income streams aligned with the organization’s mission.
- Financial Oversight: Work closely with the finance team to maintain robust financial management, ensuring the organization’s financial security and effectively communicating financial needs and challenges to the Board for strategic planning.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Partnership Building: Establish and nurture key relationships with non-profits, community leaders, government, and private-sector entities to expand ReCover’s reach and impact. This includes maintaining the organization’s strong reputation and building trust with politically and socially conscious stakeholders.
- Advocacy & Outreach: Serve as a primary spokesperson for ReCover, effectively communicating the organization’s value and benefits to the community and building a positive public perception.
What You’ll Bring:
- Senior Leadership Experience: Proven experience in a senior leadership role, ideally within a startup, non-profit, or fast-paced environment, demonstrating strong operational oversight and team management.
- Strategic & Resourceful Thinking: Ability to think strategically and find innovative solutions with limited resources, crucial for a startup environment.
- Execution Focus: A strong track record of successfully implementing strategic plans and driving operational results.
- People-First Leadership: Exceptional skills in leading, motivating, and developing teams, with a commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace.
- Financial Acumen: Experience managing budgets and contributing to strategic financial planning at an organizational level.
- Digital & Data Literacy: A working understanding of how operational data can be transformed into products or tools that support insight generation, decision-making, and new value creation—aligned with ReCover’s mission and goals.
- Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and navigate diverse stakeholder groups.
- Political Savvy: A reputation-conscious approach to stakeholder engagement, especially with key government and partner organizations.
- Adaptability: Proven ability to thrive in ambiguity and manage change effectively within a dynamic startup setting.
- Passion for the Green Economy: A deep understanding of sustainability and a genuine commitment to ReCover’s mission.
