What does a Warehouse Supervisor do?
The Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and accurate execution of all dayshift warehouse operations, including shipping, receiving, order fulfillment, and inventory management. This role directly supervises warehouse employees, ensures compliance with safety standards and company policies, maintains effective inventory control processes, and acts as the main backup to the Warehouse Manager when required.

What does a Warehouse Supervisor do?
The Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and accurate execution of all dayshift warehouse operations, including shipping, receiving, order fulfillment, and inventory management. This role directly supervises warehouse employees, ensures compliance with safety standards and company policies, maintains effective inventory control processes, and acts as the main backup to the Warehouse Manager when required.
Warehouse Operations Leadership
- Oversee daily warehouse operations during the dayshift, including shipping, receiving, staging, and order picking.
- Assign work, monitor productivity, and ensure clear communication of job expectations to the warehouse team.
- Act as a working supervisor actively involved in material handling duties.
- Ensure all tasks are performed safely and in compliance with established procedures, regulations, and company policies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free warehouse environment.
- Conduct final inspections of all inbound and outbound goods to confirm accuracy and product integrity.
- Support preventative maintenance programs for warehouse equipment and ensure records are current.
- Enforce all health and safety regulations, including WHMIS and Transportation of Dangerous Goods requirements.
- Review the warehouse inventory using a combination of protocols and physical counts.
- Compare inventory to office records such as sales orders, production orders, or purchase invoices to ensure accuracy.
- Examine items in inventory for defects, wear, or damage, and report information to the Warehouse Manager.
- Perform all administrative functions related to receiving inbound freight (vendors and branch transfers). Complete all administrative functions for order scheduling, including flushing, releasing, printing, recalling, routing orders, and maintaining daily truck log entries.
- Ensure invoicing is completed, reviewed, and properly filed each day.
- Maintain and organize truck logs and invoicing records for easy access and compliance.
- Work with Finance and warehouse staff to ensure regular cycle counts are scheduled, conducted, entered, and closed; investigate and resolve variances.
- Manage consignment inventory orders and oversee the process of returning inventory to stock or invoicing customers.
- Run weekly negative inventory reports, investigate discrepancies, and implement corrections.
- Organize and maintain the warehouse for efficient material storage and handling; maintain labeling systems on stock items, and restock inventory shelving with received or returned items.
- Train, coach, and evaluate warehouse employees to promote a high-performance culture.
- Identify training needs and provide or recommend appropriate development opportunities.
- Participate in recruiting, onboarding, performance reviews, and, if necessary, progressive discipline or termination decisions.
- Foster a collaborative, respectful, and safety-conscious work environment.
- Serve as the primary backup for the Warehouse Manager, assuming leadership of all warehouse operations during absences or as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid G driver’s license. DZ considered an asset.
- 3 years of warehouse operations experience, including 1–2 years in a supervisory or lead-hand role in a computerized warehouse environment.
- Strong knowledge of inventory control practices and cycle counting.
- Physical ability to complete high-intensity activities 4-6 hours per day, including repetitive lifting of items over 50 lbs, standing, walking, bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Suite and warehouse management systems.
- Certified or willing to train in WHMIS and Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
- Experience operating powered material handling equipment (Raymond Reach, order pickers, pump trucks, forklifts).
- Availability to work Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:00 pm
