Senior Principal Consultant

Intelligenciia

Salary: CA$220,000 - CA$300,000 per year
Contract type: Full time

Position Description

Intelligenciia has been exclusively retained to recruit a Senior Principal Consultant on behalf of a leading international mining consultancy. This is a senior level position for a technically grounded and practically minded professional who will support both the local Vancouver office and project teams across the globe.

This role is not about titles or managing direct reports. It is about presence. You will be the go to technical expert in the office: someone who sets the standard for quality and rigour, shares knowledge across mining methods and study stages, and contributes meaningfully to both team development and client outcomes.

The company has a strong preference for individuals who have spent real time on site and are just as comfortable at the face of a working mine as they are in a client meeting. Your experience will guide projects across underground and surface mining, and you will work closely with both junior and senior engineers to deliver fit for purpose solutions.

If you enjoy solving problems, mentoring others and bringing practical insight to technically diverse teams, and if you understand the consulting model of selling time rather than tonnes, we would love to speak with you.

Requirements

  • Provide technical input and oversight across mining studies (scoping through feasibility) for both open pit and underground projects.
  • Act as a mentor and technical sounding board for junior and intermediate engineers.
  • Analyze mine plans, conduct scheduling, cost modelling, and support QP sign-off.
  • Maintain a daily presence in the Vancouver office to foster knowledge sharing and real-time collaboration.
  • Support internal and external clients with practical, solution-oriented advice grounded in real mine site experience.
  • Engage across disciplines including mining, geology, and geotechnical, maintaining a broad understanding of how all inputs inform project success.
  • Demonstrate understanding of consulting dynamics and time-based billing requirements.
  • Maintain strong awareness of industry trends and project pipelines, and support BD initiatives by working with the team to identify and secure new business.
  • Collaborate with global offices and coordinate across time zones to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Ability to travel to client sites as needed, including for Competent Person responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline; other practical trade or site-based experience highly valued.
  • Qualified Person (QP) for mining related projects; underground experience preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in mining engineering with exposure to both underground and open pit environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative, hands-on mindset.
  • Familiarity with Canadian consulting environments; must understand the commercial realities of consulting business models.
  • Must be based in or willing to relocate to Vancouver, BC, with the ability to work onsite daily.
