As a Shop and Instrumentation Technician, you will be responsible for the inspection, calibration, maintenance, and repair of various instrumentation devices in a controlled workshop environment. You will ensure that all instruments comply with precise standards and quality requirements, thus contributing to the accuracy and reliability of equipment used in industrial processes. You will also occasionally perform calibration services for various measuring instruments at client sites in industrial sectors. Finally, you will provide 24/7 technical support and actively participate in initiatives aimed at optimizing systems and maintenance methods.

As a Shop and Instrumentation Technician, you will be responsible for the inspection, calibration, maintenance, and repair of various instrumentation devices in a controlled workshop environment. You will ensure that all instruments comply with precise standards and quality requirements, thus contributing to the accuracy and reliability of equipment used in industrial processes. You will also occasionally perform calibration services for various measuring instruments at client sites in industrial sectors. Finally, you will provide 24/7 technical support and actively participate in initiatives aimed at optimizing systems and maintenance methods.
What You Bring To The Table
Calibration and Testing :
- Use precision calibration tools such as loop calibrators, deadweight testers, multimeters and thermocouple simulators to evaluate and adjust instrument readings.
- Carry out performance tests under simulated operating conditions to verify instrument functionality prior to return to stock or deployment.
- Diagnose calibration deviations and make any necessary adjustments, documenting any deviation from expected values.
- Calibrate and diagnose a wide range of instrumentation devices, including pressure transmitters, temperature sensors, flow meters and level gauges to ensure they meet specific tolerances and performance standards.
- Inspect instrumentation for signs of wear, corrosion and potential malfunction, using diagnostic tools to evaluate mechanical and electronic components.
- Disassemble instruments, clean components, replace or repair worn or faulty parts (e.g. sensors, electronic cards, seals, etc.), and reassemble them to ensure correct operation.
- Carry out post-repair tests to verify functionality and ensure compliance with technical specifications.
- Maintain preventive maintenance schedules, carrying out regular checks to prevent equipment degradation and unexpected breakdowns.
- Record detailed calibration results, test data and repair actions documentation systems to ensure traceability and respond to audits.
- Comply with industry and company quality standards, scrupulously following established calibration procedures and protocols.
- Prepare calibration certificates and maintain up-to-date calibration records, ensuring that each instrument has a clear performance and maintenance history.
- Participate in internal and external audits by providing documentation and demonstrating calibration and maintenance practices.
- Monitor and maintain an organized inventory of calibration tools, spare parts and consumables, ensuring that essential supplies are available at all times.
- Carry out regular checks on workshop equipment, reporting any problems with calibration tools or diagnostic devices to ensure their reliability and accuracy.
- Coordinate with procurement departments for the purchase and tracking of calibration materials and spare parts, to avoid delays due to lack of parts.
- Provide telephone support to customers to solve complex instrumentation problems by offering ideas and solutions.
- Participate in technical discussions to improve calibration and maintenance processes, sharing workshop information to optimize instrument performance on site.
- Work closely with service technicians to provide support on complex instrumentation problems, offering ideas and recommendations on equipment use and best practices.
- Offer guidance to new team members on calibration techniques, test protocols and repair methodologies as part of ongoing team training.
- Diagnose faults on various measuring instruments quickly and efficiently by analyzing symptoms, consulting technical diagrams and performing tests.
- Use diagnostic tools to identify problems and find technical solutions to restore instrument operation as quickly as possible.
- Find solutions to customer problems.
- Document the causes of breakdowns and the solutions found, to feed a knowledge database and facilitate the resolution of similar problems in the future.
- Occasionally work evenings and weekends to maintain 24/7 emergency service and meet customer downtime requirements.
- Strictly adhere to shop safety procedures, including compliance with PPE requirements.
- Keep abreast of industry regulations and calibration standards to ensure compliance and maintain certifications.
- Participate in safety meetings and training sessions to keep abreast of new safety protocols and risk management strategies.
- Report any security incident or near-miss to ensure corrective action.
- DEC in Industrial Electronics - Instrumentation and Automation Specialization
- Minimum 5 years' experience in instrumentation, preferably in a workshop environment.
- Experience in calibration, repair and maintenance of industrial instrumentation equipment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Software.
- Proficiency in using calibration tools such as multimeters, loop calibrators, manometers, and other precision test equipment.
- Sound knowledge of instrumentation principles, sensor technologies and calibration standards.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and technical manuals.
- Communication skills, both written and verbal, in French.
- Communication skills, both written and verbal, in English would be considered an asset.
