Our client is seeking a dedicated Foreman / Shop Manager to lead their back shop team, drive sales and pricing efforts, and ensure smooth day-to-day operations in a laid-back yet productive industrial environment.

You'll oversee all aspects of motor repair and rewinding services, from initial pricing and estimates to job delegation and quality checks. This is a hands-on role requiring both strong leadership and excellent technical abilities. You will manage a team of five technicians and coordinate closely with suppliers and customers to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality output.

Key Responsibilities
Shop Management & Leadership
- Supervise and coordinate daily operations of the back shop
- Delegate repair and rewinding tasks to technicians based on skill level and workload
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols, quality standards, and deadlines
- Interact with customers (phone, email, in-person) to discuss their needs and project requirements
- Provide accurate quotes, pricing, and timelines based on service scope
- Identify opportunities to upsell or suggest additional services when appropriate
- Set clear expectations for project progress and completion
- Diagnose electric motor issues and guide technicians on repairs and rewinding processes
- Assist with complex troubleshooting and ensure proper testing procedures
- Monitor job progress and resolve technical challenges as they arise
- Prepare accurate cost estimates and determine required parts for each project
- Manage relationships with suppliers; order parts and maintain appropriate inventory levels
- Negotiate pricing/terms with vendors to optimize costs and timelines
- Conduct final inspections of motors to ensure workmanship meets industry standards
- Implement and refine workflows to increase efficiency and reduce turnaround times
- Oversee workplace organization, cleanliness, and compliance with company policies
- Foster a positive, collaborative culture by providing training and guidance to technicians
- Conduct regular team meetings to discuss progress, address issues, and set goals
- Identify skill gaps and coordinate additional training or development opportunities
- Education & Experience
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in electric motor repair, rewinding, or a closely related industrial field
- Previous supervisory or foreman experience is strongly preferred
- A Journeyman ticket (Electrical or related trade) is a bonus
- Technical Skills
- In-depth knowledge of electric motor components, rewinding processes, and troubleshooting techniques
- Proven experience with estimating, job costing, and sourcing repair parts
- Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with testing/diagnostic equipment
- Soft Skills & Competencies
- Excellent communication and people management abilities
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail (manual record-keeping)
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
- Customer-focused mindset with proven success in sales or customer relations
