Role Summary

Reporting to the Director, or designate, the Enterprise Network Support Expert is responsible for championing the design and implementation of a leading-edge network infrastructure that supports all aspects of healthcare delivery. This role ensures that the network architecture is robust and agile, capable of adapting to emerging technologies and challenges, and has a direct impact on patient care, staff communication, and operational efficiency. The on-call support provided during outages or network downtime is instrumental in triaging technical issues to the appropriate operational teams.

The role involves navigating complex technical environments to deliver solutions that enable seamless, secure, and rapid communication and data transfer across multiple facilities. Duties And Responsibilities
- Design and deploy complex network infrastructures, including integration of cloud connectivity solutions with on-premises environments, to optimize healthcare service delivery across the enterprise.
- Provide structured communication and expert advice to Senior IM/IT Leadership on network best practices, capacity planning, and issue resolution to maintain alignment with organizational objectives.
- Implement and manage next-generation firewalls (NGFW), advanced malware protection, intrusion prevention systems (IPS), and other cybersecurity measures to protect sensitive data and infrastructure.
- Develop strategies for integrating public, private, and hybrid cloud environments to ensure secure and efficient data exchanges and system scalability.
- Oversee the setup and optimization of Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), and SD-WAN to enhance network agility and resource management.
- Configure and optimize high-availability network systems using routing protocols including OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, MPLS, and VXLAN.
- Collaborate with security teams to align infrastructure with the latest security standards and implement enhancements.
- Work with other health authorities, government stakeholders, and industry partners to ensure hosting requirements align with strategic goals. Proactively address identified issues, gaps, or areas for improvement.
- Coordinate with external service providers to negotiate SLAs, manage change orders, and resolve complex service issues.
- Ensure network configurations align with broader IT strategies and leverage modern technologies to improve performance and support healthcare delivery.
- Manage the full lifecycle of network components from planning and deployment to operation and upgrades using automation tools to improve efficiency.
- Provide on-call support for critical network issues, acting as a senior escalation point during non-peak hours to implement urgent changes with minimal operational disruption.
- Mentor a team of network professionals, fostering technical excellence and a culture of continuous improvement. Serve as the primary point of contact for advanced technical guidance.
- Represent the organization in provincial meetings and technical working groups on network architecture, contributing strategic insights and ensuring alignment with broader sector-wide initiatives.
Education, Training, and Experience
- Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certification in Enterprise Networking (or relevant track).
- Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in designing, implementing, and supporting advanced network infrastructures across large-scale or healthcare environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Network Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
Skills And Abilities
- Expert-level knowledge of Cisco networking products (Nexus, Catalyst, ASR series).
- Advanced proficiency in routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP).
- Proven experience in performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization using industry-standard tools.
- In-depth understanding of network security and privacy regulations (e.g., PIPEDA, HIPAA), with the ability to design compliant solutions.
- Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong vendor management skills, including SLA negotiation and service delivery oversight.
- Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional environments, with strategic decision-making abilities.
- Highly developed problem-solving and organizational skills, with attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality network services. Note: this is an opportunity with a Microserve client.
