We are actively seeking an experienced Shift Engineer to join the Operations Team at our Lindbergh SAGD facility in Cold Lake, Alberta. Reporting to the Senior Operations Foreman, the Shift Engineer will lead their assigned team to maintain the safe and efficient operation of the plant, optimizing production by driving improvements that enhance performance without compromising safety. They will be responsible for mentoring and developing team members with their comprehensive knowledge of safety procedures, plant equipment, and plant operations.

This position requires the successful candidate to reside in the Cold Lake or Bonnyville, AB area or be willing to relocate upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with, and commitment to, Strathcona’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSER) and regulatory policies, and practices.
  • Responsible for addressing any emergency/upset situations impacting the facility.
  • Ensure Logbooks are being maintained and are legible, informative, and time stamped.
  • Direct maintenance and ensure that the work is completed as per Strathcona’s procedures and work standards.
  • Provide coaching and training for the operations team and other employees.
  • Provide responsible and effective leadership during emergency situations or maintenance situations.
  • Assist with Emergency Response Plan (ERP) drills.
  • Provide creative solutions and effective problem solving of issues that arise within the plant environment
  • Support management decisions with honest and open communication with all employees
  • Focus on safety, environment and health of employees while maximizing plant production.
  • Review, revise and write Operations Procedures
  • Report deficiencies, initiate MOCs and enter work orders.
  • Entering Incident and Proactive Reports
  • Supervise contractor crews on site.
  • Participate as a key contact for turnaround planning.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of budgets and outlooks.
  • Training new employees on shift team

Qualifications

  • Second-Class ABSA Power Engineering Certificate of Competency, or Third-Class certification with progression towards their Second.
  • 10 years of related industry experience
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • SAGD operating experience, and strong understanding of it processes: Steam Generation, Water Treatment process, Oil Treating process, De-Oiling process.
  • An understanding of vapor compressors and utilities systems (glycol heaters and air compressors)
  • Demonstrated continued knowledge of corporate work processes and values.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects outside of scope of “day to day” operations.
  • Excellent problem solving and organizational skills.

Other Details

  • Work shift work on a day/night shift rotation in a plant environment, including weekends, holidays and other shift coverage as required.
  • Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license (a driver’s abstract is required).
