About The Role

The MRU Social Media Content Creator role will assist the university Marketing and Communications department in growing the MRU Instagram and Tik Tok accounts by building peer-to-peer content on MRU social media channels through collaborative planning, creation and execution of content for the student audience. Reporting to the Senior Social Networking Strategist, the Social Media Content Creator will research, present, create and implement content online that provides timely and relevant information and/or fosters school spirit and inclusivity. The successful candidate will also aid in the development of content and production timelines, design mock-ups, messaging, collaborations and pitches for creative concepts.

Responsibilities

Content Creation (70%) Most of this role will involve creating dynamic social media content in the form of short videos (Tik Toks, Reels and Stories) and Live broadcasts on a regular weekly basis throughout each semester. This may include script writing, storyboarding, interviews and production.

Pitching and Planning (30%) - The successful candidate will regularly propose ideas for engaging student content that include current social media trends, align with what MRU students want for content and fit within the MRU brand The role will include identifying opportunities for engaging with the student audience online, planning the implementation of digital content with a university content calendar.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience with creating video content for various social media channels including, but not limited to, Tik Tok, Instagram, YouTube.
  • Must be a current MRU student with experience and familiarity with MRU campus life and knowledge of MRU student services and activities. Third or fourth year students who have had on-campus experience are preferred.
  • Experience with shooting and editing video (on a smart phone or other) content for social media.
  • Experience and comfortable being in front of the camera and interviewing others
  • Able to take direction, content ideas and execute them creatively using video on Tik Tok and Instagram Reels.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
