Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

MatchBox Consulting Group is currently seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) for a permanent remote role with a client of ours located in Toronto

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain backend systems powering core applications:
• Own the backend architecture and make key design decisions as the company scales.
• Manage cloud infrastructure using Docker, Kubernetes, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Set up and manage CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) and ensure smooth deployments.
• Collaborate closely with product, design, marketing, and leadership teams to plan and deliver features.
• Integrate AI capabilities into the platform to enhance user experience and automation.
• Support core business operations like automated invoicing and internal tool development.
• Work autonomously in a fast-paced, remote-first environment, with occasional in-person collaboration at shared workspaces.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of backend development experience, ideally in a startup or high-growth environment.
• Strong proficiency in:
• Node.js, TypeScript, Koa.js, Knex.js, PostgreSQL
• Working knowledge of React, Redux, and React Query is a plus.
• Experience managing infrastructure using Docker, Kubernetes, and GCP.
• Proficient in setting up CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions.
• Comfortable working with third-party integrations such as Plaid, Certn, SendGrid, Signwell, and Google Cloud services (Pub/Sub, Secret Manager, Cloud Storage).
• Self-starter with excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to thrive in a remote-first, highly autonomous, and fast-moving environment.
