Announcer Producer (Part Time)

Location: Edmonton or Calgary | Hybrid | Recurring Part Time | Union Position

About the Opportunity

On the Rise is CKUA’s vibrant, weekly program that shines a spotlight on emerging artists, fresh sounds, and the stories behind the music. This program is CKUA’s Top 30 Chart show where we count down the top 30 albums played on CKUA. With a rotating blend of interviews, features, fun facts, and a stellar mix of tracks, the show is a celebration of new voices and discoveries. We’re looking for a Recurring Part-Time Announcer Producer to join as a co-host, someone who brings energy, curiosity, and a passion for the next wave of music.

In this role, you’ll collaborate with a fellow host and the programming team to bring On the Rise to life each week. From selecting tracks and shaping commentary to building on-air chemistry and creating a welcoming space for listeners, you’ll help define the tone and creative direction of the show.

This is a recurring part-time role with a set 10 hours per week, including both program preparation and live on-air hosting. The position is hybrid: prep work can be done remotely, but you’ll need to be in-studio, either in Edmonton or Calgary, to host the program live.

How You’ll Make an Impact

As co-host of On the Rise, you’ll craft a thoughtful, engaging, and forward-looking radio experience that connects listeners with emerging artists and new sounds. Each week, you’ll curate music, prepare and research show segments, write and deliver commentary, and operate studio equipment during your live broadcast.

You’ll bring your own voice to the show while collaborating closely with your co-host to ensure a smooth, dynamic listening experience. Whether spotlighting an artist interview, sharing a quirky musical fact, or helping listeners discover their new favourite band, you’ll help keep On the Rise fresh, authentic, and rooted in discovery.

This role also supports audience engagement and connection. You’ll contribute to building a sense of community around the program, respond to listener inquiries, and bring CKUA’s mission to life on air.

What You Bring

You are someone who builds positive, respectful relationships and approaches your work in a way that reflects CKUA’s values of Community, Diversity, Inclusion, Creativity, Curiosity, and Authenticity.

You have experience hosting or producing audio content, whether on radio, in podcasting, or on digital platforms, and you know how to create something that feels intentional, inclusive, and alive. You may have formal training in broadcasting or media, but just as valuable is your lived experience, musical insight, and ability to connect with listeners.

You’re comfortable preparing independently and co-hosting collaboratively. You’re familiar with tools like Adobe Audition or OMT (or open to learning), and you bring a calm, confident presence to the studio—even when things get unpredictable.

Above all, you’re passionate about amplifying emerging voices in music, and you’re excited to be part of a program that celebrates artists on the rise.

Additional Details

This is a recurring part-time, unionized position based in Edmonton or Calgary, with terms and conditions governed by the Collective Agreement between CKUA and IBEW Local 2228. The pay range for this position starts at $22.25 per hour.

This is a hybrid position. While preparation work can be completed remotely, you’ll be required to host the program live from the CKUA studio in either Edmonton or Calgary. The position is scheduled for 10 hours per week, which includes both prep time and live broadcast hours.

Applicants are required to submit a demo as part of their application. You may include a link in your resume or upload your demo directly here.
