Description
We are currently recruiting for a Area Manager (12 Month Term) who has previous multi-unit management experience in a corporate system. This position covers the GTA East territory. Frequent and extended travel is a requirement in this position.
Reporting to the Associate Director, Corporate Store Operations, the Area Manager is responsible for a region comprised of 14-16 M&M Food Market corporate store locations. The person acts as a liaison between Head Office and stores, working alongside Corporate Store Managers to develop the capabilities to deliver results within their stores. This role is accountable for key financial and performance indicators within his/her region. These KPIs include, but are not limited to Sales Budgets, SSSG, EBITDA, Scorecards, CTER audits and Meal Advisor engagement. The Area Manager audits and inspects the stores to ensure adherence to brand standards and develops action plans in partnership with the Corporate Store Manager to improve operational performance.

Customer Experience:
- Establish and build a trusting relationship with Corporate Store Managers and employees by conducting valuable, purpose-driven store visits with operational intensity to improve business results.
- Conduct Store Consultation Reviews (SCR), based on the frequency as outlined in the annual plans. Key areas of focus include measuring the brand standards, a full review of our National Program implementation/execution and an overall view of the customer experience/feedback at the stores.
- Observe, assess and score the store based on the pre-set brand standard audit.
- Coach Meal Advisors and Store Managers in the moment to educate and inspire a behaviour change.
- Communicate and share brand standards and available resources that assist the Corporate Store manager remedy the gaps.
- Identify gaps and opportunities to determine root causes in operating standards and overall customer satisfaction; share the results with the Corporate Store Manager.
- Coach and train Corporate Store Managers on solutions to identified gaps (hourly training tools, coach and council forms, Customer Experience Map training and The Menu).
- Prepare for store visits by being knowledgeable about the stores’ financial performance, results from previous store audits, in play action plan progress, i.e. Scorecard metrics, and past SCR results. Flag any ongoing actions that have not been addressed.
- Lead all areas of new store openings and assist new stores in reaching their business goals.
- Visit stores as required by the stores’ segmentation model.
- Communicate and influence store-level buy-in of corporate marketing plans and programs; initiate where required, local store marketing.
- Establish clear business goals and financial targets with Corporate Store Managers.
- Suggest operational improvements that drive same-store sales growth or reduce costs for the Corporate Store Manager.
- Identify opportunities and best practices to improve the profitability of stores (both Franchise and Corporate).
- Conduct quarterly business reviews with the Corporate Store Manager.
- Coach and develop Corporate Store Managers to deliver great customer experiences and create individual development plans for corporate locations.
- Coach Store Managers to provide developmental feedback to increase leadership capability within their stores.
- Ensure that Corporate Stores are fully staffed with the right people by adhering to the approved selection process, and aiding to hire, develop and retain great Meal Advisors. Also, maintain a pipeline of candidates ready to fill vacancies.
- Geographic - multi-units across large territory may require overnight travel.
- Ability to work with and influence a variety of personality types.
- Must be able to identify talent and assist leaders in developing strong leadership skills.
- Needs to be able to build strong and cohesive relationships with Head Office and Operations team.
- Must be able to learn and remain up to date on brand standards, changes, marketing programs, and flyer promotions.
- Gaining adoption and sustainability from stores on new company systems and tools.
- Must be able to facilitate workshops/presentations.
- 4+ years as a multi-unit manager is considered a requirement.
- Experience working with corporate stores and employees is a strong asset.
- Experience in a Franchise system is considered an asset.
- Post-Secondary education is preferred.
- Experience in Operations is considered an asset.
- Key Account Management is considered an asset.
- Strong communication and conflict management skills are required, as well as the ability to influence others.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, which include lifting up to 40lbs, standing, walking.
- A valid driver’s license and good driving record, as well as a reliable vehicle is required.
