How Will You Create An Impact
The Director, Medical Staff Workforce Strategy (Director) is responsible and accountable for providing leadership within for Interior Health (IH) Medicine Portfolio. Specifically, the Director leads the annual medical staff resource planning and impact analysis processes in accordance with organization policy and the Medical Staff Rules and Bylaws. The Director is responsible and accountable for the development, implementation and monitoring of organizational and provincial medical staff workforce strategies that support IH and the Health Authority Medical Advisory Committee (HAMAC) fulfill their resource planning requirements.
The Director interacts with and maintains broad internal and external contacts for the purpose of maintaining the medical staff resource plan for IH. Internally, the Director builds and maintains relationships with medical staff, senior leaders, managers, and staff within the organization. Externally, the Director fosters and influences relationships with the Ministry of Health, the Health Employers Association of British Columbia (HEABC), government agencies, other Health Authorities, academic institutions, and members of the public in matters related to medical staff resource workforce planning within IH.

What Will You Work On
- Oversees the Medical Staff Workforce Strategy portfolio, including Medical Staff Resource Planning, Associate Physicians & Physician Assistant programs, and supports for Medical Residents, ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of services.
- Leads strategic processes including reporting that support the Health Authority Medical Advisory Committee (HAMAC) in the development of a robust, evidence-informed annual Medical Staff Resource Plan (MSRP).
- Provides leadership for the development, recommendations, and implementation of workforce strategies intended to improve the recruitment, retention and optimization of medical staff health human resources (HHR). Engages with partners to establish comprehensive workforce plans that improve service access, support organizational priorities, and address current and anticipated workforce gaps.
- Partners with Medical Administration, Physician Compensation Analysts and Medical Staff Contracts to ensure MSRP alignment with local needs, and provincial physician compensation and contract models.
- In collaboration with IH and provincial partners, develops and implements innovative, data-driven and leading practice strategies to support the efficient and effective utilization of medical staff HHR.
- Serves as a representative in liaising with government and government agencies, other Health Authorities, HEABC, and other organizations who are involved in medical staff workforce strategies including resource planning processes, physician extender models, and residency programs.
- Develops and recommends budgets, monitors expenditures, performs variance analysis and reporting, and implements remedial action.
- Provides leadership and guidance to employees using effective management techniques; coaches and mentors employees; conducts performance evaluations and creates a learning environment that promotes and supports professional growth of all employees; participates in recruitment activities and makes hiring and discipline decisions.
- Serves as a subject matter expert who is up to date on medical staff workforce needs, strategies and initiatives through professional development opportunities and internal and external partnerships.
- Develops and/or refines executive briefing notes and business cases, key performance metrics, and reporting strategies and processes to support medical staff workforce strategies, in collaboration with Medical Affairs and Clinical Operations where appropriate.
- Establishes project plans that include budgets that aligning with operational demands and environmental and resource constraints. Leads project teams and uses best practice methodology to thoroughly monitor and adhere to allocated resources.
- In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, maintain a healthy and safe work environment through complying with and implementing applicable Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, responding to requests from WSBC, identifying hazards and communicating risks, ensuring compliance with employee training, conducting effective incident investigations and implementing required corrective actions.
