The Durham District School Board and The Ignite Durham Learning Foundation’s Make a Difference Depot was established to help reduce the impacts of poverty on students. The Ignite Durham Learning Foundation (IDLF) is a charitable organization that serves to remove financial barriers to create equitable opportunities that empower Durham District School Board students to achieve academic and personal success.
Reporting To The Ignite Durham Learning Foundation Executive Director With Day-to-day Supervision By The Depot Lead, The IDLF Make a Difference Depot Warehouse Associate Will Support With Day-to-day Administration, Logistics, Organization, And Facilitation Of The Programs Found At The Depot

The programs of the IDLF Make a Difference Depot are:
- The Starfish Store : accepts and sources new items that support students’ success in school by ensuring they have access to school supplies, personal care products and clothing to address their readiness to learn.
- The Re:Source Program : receives donations from organizations that have an overstock of various supplies that may be repurposed in classrooms to enhance student learning.
- The S.N.A.C.K Program (Nutrition Station and Food Pantry) : supports breakfast and snack programs in DDSB’s Make a Difference schools as well as students and their families facing food insecurity by providing food hampers.
- Responsible for the general functioning of The Depot during operating hours, including facilitating the operation of the three programs of The Depot
- Use EBase inventory system to track incoming and outgoing items
- Process and sort all in-kind donated materials
- Use data to drive work priorities
- Work closely with Village Union P.S. staff to coordinate use of space, safety protocols and adherence to school specific policies
- Create efficiencies in distribution of donated items
- Manage schedule and calendar of events for incoming donations
- Respond to all email orders
- Organize and assemble food and clothing hampers for students
- Support educators during their visit to the Depot
- Ensure Depot shelves are always stocked and well-organized
- Manage schedule and calendar of events for outgoing deliveries
- Coordinate transportation of materials to and from The Depot as required
- Support volunteers
- Manage the Cobs Bread delivery and pick up schedule
- Maintain Nutrition Station, ensuring that food expiry dates are monitored
- Represent The IDLF Make a Difference Depot at community events
- Maintain overall order, organization, and cleanliness of The Depot
- Support IDLF fundraising events through collection and tracking of donated items (i.e. Virtual Auction)
- Support Holiday Helpers and Ignite the Holidays program – collection of gifts, gift wrapping, deliveries.
- Exceptional organizational skills and proven ability to prioritize workload
- Self-Starter with an ability to work independently maintaining a standard of excellence in productivity
- Professional and effective communication skills with a strong customer service focus
- Computer Competency including experience with Email, Insignia, Google Suite, Word, Excel, Ebase,
- Awareness of and sensitivity to the trends and impacts of poverty
- Cultural and societal awareness and sensitivity to the variety of needs that exist amongst our DDSB students and families
- Knowledge of community development, social services, Durham demographics, and more
- Experience with warehouse logistics and retail is an asset.
- Secondary School Diploma
- This is a 16 hour per week temporary position available until approximately June 24, 2026
- The current work schedule is Tuesday and Wednesday
- The IDLF Make a Difference Depot is located in Oshawa, Ontario and this will be where the role is based.
- A valid driver's license and a drivers abstract, with the ability to transport donations in a company vehicle, as required
- Ability to lift and move boxes up to 50lbs.
- Provide a current Criminal Background Check with vulnerable sector screening upon hire.
