In the AtkinsRéalis Rail Infrastructure team, our main areas of expertise cover all aspects of track design for LRT, passenger and freight rail, including alignment and profile design, track componentry, materials specifications, detail design and construction support.
Our global rail experience spans the entire life cycle of infrastructure, whether it's designing and building heavy rail or light rail networks, providing in-service maintenance or providing rehabilitation or construction services. We’re involved in all project stages – including feasibility studies, design, construction and maintenance – and project sizes, from short sidings to yards to entire LRT systems.
Reporting to the Rail Infrastructure Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Vancouver Rail Infrastructure team and will actively participate in the realization of rail projects. The ideal candidate is an engineer in the lower mainland with railway design and construction experience, some project management experience and leadership experience.
The Vancouver Rail Infrastructure team is a diverse team of engineers, drafters, project/business managers and beyond, working together to strengthen our capabilities and to build meaningful transportation projects we can be proud of. We are currently 12 fulltime staff, with nearly 50 total in the Rail Infrastructure group across Canada. We work in hybrid mode between our homes and office in downtown Vancouver.

Your Role Within The Team
This role is a combination of Engineering and People Management. The day-to-day responsibilities split is expected to be mostly technical engineering or related project work, with corporate initiatives and people management averaging about 20%. The successful candidate will be expected to:
- People management (employee engagement; training; career progression; liaising with HR; etc) and leading the team to meet business objectives (financial/chargeability targets, etc).
- Collaborate with the Rail Infrastructure Director and other Regional Managers in Montreal and Toronto to meet business objectives and share skillsets and resources across Canada.
- Attend the office (Vancouver) at least 3 days per week to support and encourage team communication, training, corporate awareness and collaboration; the expectation is that team members should know where/when to connect if they need.
- Act as Engineer-of-Record for railway projects: perform engineering analysis, create technical documents and written communications for railway projects.
- Perform project management tasks to coordinate members of a technical team to carry out projects and to track progress.
- Act as a point of contact with suppliers, clients and other stakeholders.
- Lead and/or participate in the development of new service offers.

- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering (or equivalent) and be a member in good standing with EGBC (or, eligible for registration with EGBC).
- Minimum of 10 + years of relevant Technical experience in railway project bids, design and/or construction.
- Working familiarity with AutoDESK CIVIL 3D and/or Microstation.
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent people skills/soft skills.
- Positive, autonomous, organized and able to manage priorities in a multitasking environment.
