The Centre for Environment and Sustainability (CES), is an interdisciplinary initiative supported by the Faculty of Science (host faculty), Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Social Science, and other contributing faculties. It is home to the Master of Environment and Sustainability program and the graduate Specialization in Environment and Sustainability.


Course Information


ENVRSUST 9013 – Building Sustainable Business

This course considers different business concepts with environmental sustainability as a backdrop. The emphasis is on decision making and business analysis including investments in technologies, product development trade-offs, climate change (carbon and risk management), and the alignment of environmental strategy with the corporate strategy. The course addresses social aspects such as supply chain accountability and employee safety.

Please Note that the MES program plans to have two sections for this course:

  • semester 2026 for 11 sessions achieving 38.5 contact-hours throughout the semester, delivered on an irregular schedule. Classes will be delivered Mondays and Tuesdays January 5-6, 12,13 and 19-20; February 9-10, 23-24 and March 10.
  • The second section will be delivered in person in the afternoon from 2:30 to 6:00 during the winter semester 2026 for 11 sessions, achieving 38.5 contact-hours throughout the semester, delivered on an irregular schedule. Classes will be delivered Mondays and Tuesdays January 5-6, 12,13 and 19-20; February 9-10, 23-24 and March 10.
  • Please indicate in your cover letter for which section(s) you are applying (it can be for both). It is important to note that if two different instructors are appointed to this course some coordination between the instructors will be needed — the MES program is expecting a minimum of 80% of overlap between the two sections.

Responsibilities


You will be responsible for all activities associated with the successful delivery of the course, including but not limited to: developing, preparing, and delivering the course; setting and marking examinations, assessing the academic work of students, and reporting grades.

Candidates must be willing to undertake training as required by the Employer including, but not limited to, training in respect of health and safety, harassment and discrimination, and legislated service standards.

Qualifications


Candidates must have a PhD in a relevant discipline (or be close to completion) or an MBA and a demonstrated record of high performance and expertise in the specific subject area of any course for which they apply.
