The Role
Reporting to the Manager, FIU Intake Operations, this position will play a key role in ensuring regulatory AML/ATF compliance and fraud prevention across MCAP. In this role, the incumbent will be involved in all compliance elements of the AML/ATF program, including the review of unusual transactions, drafting suspicious transaction reports, conducting due diligence reviews, on-boarding processes, assessing and monitoring high risk clients, and more. By following established policies and procedures for AML/ATF and potential fraud identification, this role will conduct advanced analysis and monitoring activities in support of MCAP’s obligations as it relates to applicable regulations, contractual agreements and MCAP’s focus on money laundering activities and internal and external fraud risk.

The Role

- This role is the back-up function to the Manager, FIU Intake, and will be called upon to learn, understand and regularly execute elements of that mandate.
- The Sr. FIU Analyst is mandated to contribute to the overall success of FIU Operations by ensuring the goals, plans, initiatives, and programs are executed and delivered in support of the team’s business objectives.
- Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader MCAP relationships, systems, and knowledge.
- Train in aspects of the Manager, Intake Operations role to provide support and back-up responsibilities as required.
- Follow established written procedures and guidelines for transaction monitoring, conduct 2nd level investigations on escalated unusual customer activity that may have the potential for money laundering, terrorist financing or fraudulent activities and decision on next steps.
- Conduct escalated 2nd level reviews of potential sanctions reviews.
- Conduct ad hoc investigations as assigned by the Manager, Intake Operations.
- Oversee and sign-off on various transaction monitoring, compliance audit and high-risk client review activities.
- Independently investigate and disposition high risk and high complex cases for potential suspicious activity and refer urgent or higher risk cases to the Manager, FIU Investigations as required.
- As assigned, the Sr. FIU Analyst may be required to conduct in-depth reviews of cases/alerts with content relating to Single Family, Commercial and/or Construction clients. In these reviews, the individual will apply advanced research skills and expert knowledge of MCAP’s products/services and standard business practices to investigate and assess potential AML and operational risk exposures.
- Maintain customer enhanced due diligence reports.
- Manage KYC Audit process and reporting
- Prepare Suspicious Transaction Reports (ASTRS/STRs) as required by the investigations team.
- Complete politically exposed persons (PEP) reviews for management sign off.
- Maintain case records and related documentation for all information found throughout investigations, developing, and maintaining account files in a manner that will ensure compliance with department standards, as well as in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Responsible for the collection and preparation of up-to-date AML/Fraud content for Policy Manual for Single Family.
- Support all MCAP lines of business with valuable insight and direction on escalated files as required.
- Identify and articulate continuous improvement opportunities to enhance effectiveness and efficiency of the program. Participate in the implementation process of identified opportunities.
- Contribute to the maintenance of the MCAP AML/ATF/Sanctions/Fraud Program Policies and Procedures.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of AML/ATF/Sanctions regulatory requirements to provide guidance to business partners regarding related processes and procedures.
- Actively participate in various AML/ATF/Sanctions/Fraud compliance initiatives.
- In accordance with the assigned role, the Senior FIU Analyst will be required to train and/or mentor other FIU Analysts.
- May be required to review client exit recommendations for reasonability, accuracy and completeness and further escalate to Management for approval.
- Respond to requests and concerns from various business units and other risk functions across MCAP in a timely manner.
- Understand how MCAP’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered and applied in day-to-day activities and decisions.

- Minimum 5 years in the field of residential mortgages with a focus on mortgage fraud, money laundering and terrorist financing detection
- Working knowledge and experience with investigative techniques and financial criminal trends
- Working knowledge of FINTRAC AML/ATF regulations
- In depth knowledge of the mortgage industry and life cycle.
- Proficient in risk management practices, fraud investigative procedures/prevention strategies and judicial processes relating to fraud prosecutions.
- Advanced analytical skills and the ability to review and organize large amounts of data and/or information. Utilizing strong open-source research and investigative skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of AML/ATF practices for reporting entities and service providers.
- Advanced knowledge of Canadian and International regulatory statues and other reporting requirements.
- Knowledge of MCAP underwriting and servicing policies, procedures, and products, for all three lines of business.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Experience with PowerApps, SQL process & SharePoint
- Strong knowledge of internal procedures and policies to assist in analyzing situations, gathering information, and required documentation.
