About The Opportunity

McDougall Energy is looking for an organized, reliable and detail-oriented individual to fill position of Payroll Manager. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, this role is a key member of the Finance team responsible for overseeing the payroll processing for all McDougall Group of Companies and also assumes accounting duties related to the department’s activities.

Responsibilities Include

  • Overseeing the full payroll cycle on a bi-weekly basis for all employees in a timely and accurate manner
  • Recording all payroll activity within the general ledger.
  • Maintaining monthly reconciliations for all payroll related accounts and activities.
  • The preparation and submission of all statutory payroll tax remittances, pension, health benefits and other legislated payments.
  • Ensuring compliance with all federal, provincial and local laws and regulations, participating in any audits by various regulatory agencies
  • Primary resource for any payroll account inquiries/audits by CRA on payroll account activity and Key contact with Canada Life on pension and benefits.
  • Provides direction to the Payroll Administrator on Company policies, leading all workload activity for the Payroll Team.
  • Participating in the setup of new employees in conjunction with HR and processing employee master data changes in the payroll system
  • Leading any Workday payroll configuration changes
  • Implementing and maintaining corporate payroll policies including identifying and implementing processes to improve efficiencies
  • Preparing annual EHT and WSIB Returns
  • Participating in the annual external audit playing a lead role in all audit procedures related to payroll system and processes.

About You

  • College Diploma in Accounting, Payroll, or related area. Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designation is an asset.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of payroll experience in a multi-faceted workforce environment (e.g. full-time, part-time, commissioned, etc.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with the utmost discretion.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll processes / logistics and of relevant legislative requirements (e.g. Employment Standards, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of accounting practices and processes.
  • Ability to handle large volumes of data, with attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to handle sensitive communications with tact and diplomacy.
  • Excellent analytical, technical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, including the ability to effectively prioritize a significant workload.
  • Ability to work under pressure, often with conflicting responsibilities and deadlines.
  • Strong computer proficiency, including intermediate knowledge of spreadsheet applications, such as MS Excel. Experience with payroll software (e.g. ADP).
