About The Position

RWDI is seeking an innovative individual with experience in wind flow in urban environment to join our Microclimate team as a Senior Engineer in the Guelph office.

In the Microclimate team, we study how our built environment impacts the local microclimate, and how we can ensure we design and build cities that are safe, comfortable and resilient. Environmental factors such as wind, sun, temperature and snow are considered when conducting these studies.

This senior level role includes but is not limited to:

  • Solving challenges related to urban microclimate studies, pedestrian level wind and thermal comfort.
  • Consult with architects and developers to help them achieve comfortable and safe outdoor environments.
  • Interpreting and analyzing wind tunnel data to generate clear and concise recommendations related to pedestrian wind comfort, thermal comfort and door operability.
  • Undertaking desk-based assessment based on interpretation of theoretical models and experience to provide our clients with timely guidance.
  • Communicating engineering results and design recommendations that deliver effective and easy to understand solutions using a variety of vehicles from technical reports to live meetings.
  • Co-ordinating with a diverse team to deliver top advice to our clients on time and on budget.
  • Review and agree to scope of work prior to commencement of a project.
  • Participate in Business Development activities.
  • Execute and oversee technical development initiatives collaborating with additional stakeholders.
  • Mentor, coach and provide microclimate expertise to junior team members while providing them with latitude to exercise independent judgement.
  • Provide expert testimony at hearings.
  • Assist in reviewing technical project reports prepared by junior team members.


We are accepting applications from candidates with the following qualifications:

  • 5 – 15 years of experience working in microclimate.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s level Engineering degree in Environmental, Aerospace, Mechanical or Structural.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer
  • Demonstrated knowledge of wind engineering concepts and/or bluff body aerodynamics.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar environments.
  • Experience with Excel/VBA automation and scientific computing using scripting language such as Python preferred.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • An aptitude for practical self-directed problem solving and proven ability to successfully meet deadlines.
