Position Summary

The Marine Technical Operations Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day marine engineering issues of the liquid bulk tanker vessels/ATBs as well as long term requirements. This position will be required to lead and manage the engineering needs of the McAsphalt and Sterling Fuels fleet. The duties include structural, mechanical and electrical oversight as well as managing a computerized maintenance regimen for all of the vessels while maintaining the highest possible standing with the major oil companies as well as other general office administrative duties as assigned. The majority of activities are currently conducted from our Hamilton location.

This position also requires understanding of best practices in procurement software and management and will support the procurement team as required, including specifying the technical requirements and tolerances of parts, and service needs, sourcing and warranty administration.

Main Qualifications Required

  • Marine Engineering Technology Program;
  • Electrical Engineering Diploma or Degree;
  • 5 Years marine engineering experience;
  • Tanker Endorsement advanced or basic is an asset.
  • Tug-Barge Experience would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with statutes and regulations: ISM, ISO, Canada Shipping Act, SOLAS, Marpol, MOHS, STCW
  • Knowledge of the Great Lakes shipping area and related trading patterns
  • Knowledge and experience with LNG fuel and gas driven propulsion and heating systems would be beneficial
  • Valid drivers license with a clean driving record
  • Sufficient physical fitness required to safely enter cargo holds, confined and void spaces and all areas on a typical ship/ATB
