Position Overview
Payroll Assistants are responsible for operating cheque printers and cheque stuffers. Responsibilities include printing and stuffing cheques, preparing cheque related reports and packaging cheques for client pick up, mail or delivery. In addition, they perform administrative duties such as cross check membership lists, verify corporation status, and prepare employee requested reports.

Compensation is commensurate with various factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, skills, training, licensure, certifications, geographic cost of labor, and other business and organizational needs. Compensation range for candidates in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location. The compensation range for this position is: $20.00 - $21.00 per hour.

Position Overview
Payroll Assistants are responsible for operating cheque printers and cheque stuffers. Responsibilities include printing and stuffing cheques, preparing cheque related reports and packaging cheques for client pick up, mail or delivery. In addition, they perform administrative duties such as cross check membership lists, verify corporation status, and prepare employee requested reports.
Core Responsibilities
- Printing payroll cheques and related documents, including timecards, invoices and cheque registers. The Payroll Assistant must be rigorous in matching all cheques and paperwork
- Working with Coordinators for cheque print priorities and watching daily deadlines, such as the delivery and courier cutoffs
- Preparing cheque packages, which can include for front desk pickup. This function requires strict attention to packaging details, including matching timecards to cheques, proper labelling, and other directions that may be indicated by Coordinators
- Communication with clients when cheques are ready to be picked up
- Basic maintenance of the printers, including changing cartridges and paper as well as clearing paper jams and other “routine” printer problems. The Payroll Assistant also has responsibility to notify management when devices need service
- Coordinate with facility team regarding office supply orders and ensure that the cheque print room is organized and has enough supplies for uninterrupted workflow
- Verify union member status by cross checking against union membership lists
- Verify Corporation or GST/HST accounts against the CRA registry or BC Online
- Share union membership lists with internal teams
- Reply to and/or forward incoming emails in a timely manner
- Generate and send reports to employees including hours worked reports
- Back up as needed for Reception including answering calls, bank deposits, preparation of union remittances and Records of Employment
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Minimum one year in an administrative or comparable position
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent PC skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize time efficiently
- Ability to work in office at our Burnaby location
- Sedentary – Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Some positions may entail exerting up to 15 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, or pull.
