Position Overview

The Accountant exercises responsibility for the monthly preparation of financial schedules, summaries, analyses and reports. This position handles preparation of standard journal entries, preparation of company and governmental statistics, and maintenance of various general ledger accounts. This position makes product cost analyses and prepares summaries and reports, coordinates and controls the input and output of month-end entries through EDP, maintains chart of accounts and oversees the maintenance of accounting files. The accountant also participates in the annual preparation of plant budgets.

Primary Responsibilities

Coordinates and controls month-end input and output entries through EDP, including journal vouchers, schedules, and financial statement preparation.

Maintains chart of accounts, oversees filing, and provides control and maintenance of month-end financial reports

Compiles data and information for monthly financial reports by preparing schedules, summaries, analyses, monthly journal vouchers including accruals and reserve calculations, and allocating expenses to various locations

Assists in tracking and recording of monthly and annual physical asset inventory through the EDP system

Assists in the preparation of the annual budget

Prepares analyses, summaries, cost reports, and reconciliation of general ledger accounts as stipulated

Acts as backup for Accounts Payable and Payroll functions, providing training for clerical employees, and assists them to perform more difficult tasks

Education Requirements

B.S. degree in Accounting, Finance, or other business-related field

Minimum Experience Required

Two (2) years of experience in general accounting, cost accounting, with some systems and procedures experience.

Strong communication and analytical skills, initiative, ingenuity, accuracy and judgment to recognize discrepancies and/or misstatements within financial data, budgets, statistics, hourly payroll, and other sensitive data

Understands and maintains confidentiality with respect to financial and payroll data, and adheres to precise target dates for schedules, reports, analyses and statistics

Computer Equipment and Software Requirements

Computer literate with the ability to utilize multiple types of software; knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office, Excel and Access
