Position Summary: The Metrology/Quality Measurement Specialist brings a solutions-based focus to the role and aids in developing, configuring and optimizing all manufacturing processes throughout the Further Processing operation.
PRIORITY: Developing, implementing, managing and overseeing plant activities to maximize continuous improvements in quality, food safety and productivity in our plants.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Calibration and Maintenance:
- Develop, validate and apply measurement systems, procedures and calibration methods.
- Define and execute implementation strategy across all sites.
- Ensure measurement instruments are accurate and reliable and to ensure consistent application and repeatability across all activities.
- Complete all documentation following GMP guidelines and company SOPs and take part in Internal, Customer and Regulatory Audits.
- Interpret test results (internal and 3rd party) and create a plan if added testing is required.
- Verification of Measurement Processes:
- Analyze measurement data to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Verify measurement procedures across various operational and process control activities.
- Compliance with Standards:
- Ensuring that measurements and equipment meet established industry standards and regulations.
- Maintain calibration/verification procedures to remain compliant, and Initiate Change Controls providing steps required and including other stakeholders.
- Responsible for the co-ordination of calibration efforts by third party calibration providers.
- Research and Development:
- Contributing to the development of new measurement techniques and technologies.
- Training and Support:
- Participate in root cause and problem-solving investigations as needed for CARs, NCs, Audit findings etc. Complete requirements as related to Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA’s).
- Reporting:
- Document and report measurement and calibration results.
- Bachelor's degree in a Metrology, Engineering or relevant/related Scientific discipline (e.g. Food Science)
- 5+ years of relevant experience – ideally including some in the food sector
- A Certificate or Diploma in Metrology & Calibration or ASQ Certification as a Calibration Technician would be an asset
- Laboratory equipment calibration and maintenance experience
- Strong understanding of measurement principles and techniques
- Familiarity with standards such as ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 9000
- Knowledge of relevant food industry standards and regulations including HACCP, CFIA, etc.
- Experience implementing continuous improvement and best practice initiatives
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to interact with and motivate a diverse group of people
- Knowledge of metrology software and tools, strong computer/technical skills
- Experience with statistical analysis and data interpretation
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to troubleshoot, problem-solve, and facilitate change management
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong critical thinking and communication skills (written and verbal) to share ideas and influence others, including senior management team
- Ability to implement new working practices with strong change-leadership skills
- Working with staff at all levels of our business to ensure detailed understanding of the importance of food quality and safety metrics
- Coach staff to develop and retain high-potential employees for the future
- Regular work in cold environment with slippery floors
- Tolerant of working with raw meat products (poultry, pork, beef, lamb, fish)
- Must be capable of the physical job requirements – standing, climbing ladders, maneuvering under and over equipment safely
