Participates as a member of the Operations Divisions supporting program objectives and priorities. The incumbent will act as a liaison between Finance and the three Operational Divisions (Energy North Operations, Energy South Operations and Transmission Distribution Operations), with the objective for compiling and preparation operational material for monthly reporting and budgeting and forecasting purposes as well as ad hoc reporting required to support the operations management teams.

A key part of the role will be ensuring compliance with Corporation policies, goals, objectives and develops, and leads quality control reviews for the Corporation’s various forecasts and conducts variance analyses for both management and regulatory purposes.

  • Leads the processes for continual review and management of operational operating and maintenance budgets. This includes the production of reports and analyses on monthly financial results to identify variances, required re-coding and missing costs as well as working with the management team and the Finance Division on any follow up actions resulting from the review of monthly results including the creation of entries into the accounting system.
  • Responsible for the financial tracking and reconciliation of Customer Billed TMI and Construction Contributions projects. (Type 6 & 7 projects). This includes ensuring costs for projects are complete and accurate through coordination with the Transmission Distribution Operations management team and crew leads. Coordinates set up and closing of these projects with the Distribution Technician.
  • Serves as secondary coverage for the Distribution Technician role. Includes developing a full understanding of the processes and tasks associated with customers service requests, providing estimates, preparing contracts, accepting deposits and initiating work orders to support customer requests.
  • Provides professional advice and analyses and reviews reports with recommendations to the operations management team on the Divisions’ financial performance, new business initiatives, and corporate forecasts.
  • Evaluate operational scenarios by utilization of business case models. Assist in the development of ad hoc models to support unique scenarios or limited scope analysis. Provide support in the formulation of model inputs and processing of data through operations models.
  • Performs impact analysis of business decisions issued by the Corporation from a qualitative and quantitative perspective and identifies risks therewith. This includes projecting risk analytics in financial and business operations models.
  • Coordinate with the Hydrology and Business Systems Specialist, the process for corporate outage reporting. This includes providing training on the process, ensuring supporting documentation for the process is kept up to date and maintaining dashboards and reports for recurring reporting to the Senior Leadership team, COO, and the Board as well as ad hoc reporting. Provides support to the Outage Investigation Committee.
  • Support the operations functions in the Corporate ethermal system including coordination and training of monthly information entry, regular reporting, integration with other systems and updates to the system as required in conjunction with IT.
  • Leads the development of the annual operations and maintenance budget using two financial frameworks; a Public Sector Accounting framework and a Rate Regulated Accounting framework. These duties may include
    • Assisting managers with budget questions
    • Budget reviews for accuracy and completion
    • Recommending changes to budgets and forecast updates
    • Develop management reporting documents
    • Leads quarterly budget variance analyses discussions with Finance Division and forecast updates for operational divisions. This includes reviewing divisional data and facilitating divisional review meetings with the management team and developing supporting documentation.
    • Leads the Operations Management Team’s review of the status of the annual capital project plan in providing accurate and timely information on capital projects led by Operations including running ad hoc reports on costs, creating entries to reallocate costs and supporting work for managers to provide a monthly status update on costs as part of the capital planning and reporting process.
    • Maintains a strong understanding of the Corporation’s Chart of Accounts in coordination with the Finance Division. Provides training and fields inquiries regarding the code of accounts to the operations divisions.
    • Support the monthly review of the Operations Divisional Plans and KPIs by preparing documents for monthly discussion and following up on any action items along with the appropriate manager. Summarize information for quarterly reporting to management and the Board of Directors.
    • Evaluate and coordinate with Finance Division the implementation, where practical and beneficial, continuous improvement initiatives related to the processes for internal management reporting or monthly financial reporting,
    • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with peers in own and other regional offices, and head office to co-ordinate programs and services and to seek and provide information and advice in areas of mutual concern or interest.
    • Always work safely, adhere to all aspects of the NTPC Health & Safety and Environmental programs, comply with all rules & regulations, and continually practice health & safety while performing any duties.
    • Must possess a professional accounting designation or a degree in business/economics OR a diploma in accounting with two or more years related experience. Equivalencies and developmental plans will be considered depending on directly related experience.

    • Must have strong organizational skills.
    • Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
    • Must possess strong Microsoft Windows computer skills (MS Word, Power Point).
    • Must have advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
    • Work experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP and/or BI360 Reporting is an asset.
    • Must be willing to learn to write reports based on NTPC’s ERP database
    • Successful applicant must provide a satisfactory criminal record check prior to commencing work.


    Salary for this position ranges from $61.89/hr - $75.21/hr plus location allowance of approximately $4,642 per annum.
