The Role: Family and Youth Resource Network Specialist (Full Time)

Family Resource Network Specialist provides children and families with programming and services around child development and wellbeing, caregiver capacity building and social connections and support. This role connects with formal and informal partners to provide a comprehensive range of services designed to engage families and support healthy growth and development.

This position is 37.5 hours per week and requires a flexible schedule as it may include some evenings and weekends to meet client needs.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities
  • Create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all families accessing the Hub.
  • Develop, implement, and facilitate child, family and community activities and interventions to enhance child protective factors and reduce risk.
  • Enhance family support networks, both formal and informal for diverse populations.
  • Integrate different roles such as coach, mentor, support, advocate, resource person and facilitator for clients and their families.
  • Enhance parental capacity by supporting and strengthening skill and knowledge in areas such as sensitive parenting, ages and stages, positive parenting practices etc.
  • Engage and build relationships with, and between, families, individuals, communities, schools, and other service providers.
  • Enhance social connections for children, families and the community to decrease social isolation and build resiliency.
  • Support children and families through crises and safety planning with families and Children’s Services as required.
  • Facilitate multiple parenting and child development programs (Triple P Parenting, Circle of Security Parenting, Kids have Stress Too, Zones of Regulation etc.)
  • Integrate cultural and traditional ways of meeting needs into services including, but not limited to, embedding ceremony, meeting in Circle with Elders, smudging.
  • Significant collection of outcomes data, including maintaining accurate electronic client records consistent with Trellis policies & procedures, and report-writing and collection of evaluation of progress and outcomes data.
  • Other duties as required.
Knowledge and Skills Expectations
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services related field (equivalencies will be considered).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with families and children.
  • Understanding of the child protection system and knowledge of local resources.
  • Understanding of Infant and Adult Mental Health and ability to structure programming accordingly.
  • Strong critical thinking, engagement, and assessment skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with outcome measurement.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License and Drivers Abstract
  • Reliable vehicle as this position requires driving to meet family and client needs.
  • Working knowledge of Child Development, Ages & Stages, Positive Parenting, Parental Sensitivity, Systems Theory and Attachment Theories, Grief and Loss, and Trauma Informed Care would be considered an asset.
Reporting Relationship: This position directly reports to the Calgary Family Resource Network Program Manager
