Job Overview
This position achieves the Genuine Merchant Strategy by assisting the General Manager in the efficient and effective management of the overall performance and functioning of the entire DC. Build team engagement and positive work environment. This role assists in leading, managing, coaching and training team members to achieve the highest level of productivity, customer service, adherence to standard operating procedures and all other company procedures including Food Safety and Health and Safety. Ensures effective operation of all departments, with specific responsibility to build strategic plans with strong focus on KPIs with leaders and manage the plans to achieve the required results as designated by the General Manager. Implements company initiatives and programs. Performs administrative functions and resolves team members’ issues. Builds positive relationships with team members, customers and suppliers. Assist in developing and maintaining the operational budget as required.

- Assist General Manager in hiring, motivating and developing team members and by providing input and feedback for completion of performance appraisals
- Provide direct daily supervision to his/her team to ensure safe, clean and efficient operation of the warehouse
- Apply sound communication and motivational techniques in supervising, coaching to achieve KPIs, including discipline as needed.
- Coaches and trains team members to maintain the highest level of personal and team productivity by ensuring strong technical skills and training
- Meets with leaders consistently to ensure strong communication on DC and overall company initiatives, goals and objectives
- Ensuring all team members adhere to food safety standards
- Ensuring that all team members adhere to all health and workplace safety standards
- Ensuring that all team members adhere to proper sanitization and cleaning procedures
- Assist in maintaining warehouse security
- Ensure the efficient and safe operation of material handling equipment
- Ensure all equipment is functioning and request maintenance as needed
- Supports DC General Manager in implementing of all Warehouse initiatives that support the Genuine Merchant Strategy
- Ensure all conventional and automated distribution remains on-time with strong focus on quality
- Direct and supervise all inbound/outbound shipments to ensure they are correct and carried out in a timely fashion
- Tour the warehouse regularly to answer questions, evaluate operations and problem solve
- Make recommendations to the DC General Manager on programs to improve warehouse operations
- Hands on when required
- Ensure IC functions including cycle counting and optimization remains on-track
- Assist in physical inventory
- Ensure the optimal use of space
- Service levels are maintained
- Billing and receiving accuracy is maintained
- Ensures positive customer service relations with a variety of internal customers such as: Department Managers, Store Managers and Head Office Departments, external vendors and government regulators
- On-time communication is maintained with stores through sharepoint trackers to resolve inquiries
- Support Supervisor performance appraisals and performance documentation

- Post secondary education and a minimum of 10 years of distribution experience
- 10-15 years of experience as a DC manager or assistant DC manager
- Proven leadership skills and/or leadership training
- Good understanding of warehouse, delivery and traffic operations within a distribution setting
- Appropriate knowledge of maintenance and care of equipment, materials and supplies
- Knowledge of Employment Standards, WHIMIS, Health & Safety, Food Safety and Loss Prevention practises
- Knowledge of temperature control
- Ability to coach and develop others
- Material handling equipment certification
- Strong computer and Analytical skills, proficient in use of MS Office Suite of products including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Sharepoint
- Work is performed in a standard warehouse environment with participation in meetings at the office
- Ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities with regular deadlines
- Travel to various Warehouse locations required
- Ability to work a variety of shifts including - evenings, weekends and holidays as business needs require
