Mission

Terus Construction, a division of Colas Western Canada Inc., is seeking an HR Generalist to join our team in Surrey, BC for an 18-month contract term.


Reporting to HRBP, the HR Generalist is instrumental in fostering a work environment that upholds the company’s values and promotes employee engagement. This role plays a critical role in upholding HR presence in strategic planning and day-to-day operations. The HR Generalist will support various business leaders and employees, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of HR support. As an active contributor within the HR team, the HR Generalist will, contribute to the overall success of the organization by attracting, developing, and retaining top talent.

Position Summary

The HR Generalist is responsible for supporting the HR team and operations in implementing broad range of HR functions. This role requires a proactive and strategic approach to Recruitment, Employee Relations and Workplace Investigations.

Main Responsibilities

  • HR Information Systems Management:
    • Managing HRIS System: Working with the Terus HR team, maintain the operation and maintenance of the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) to ensure data accuracy and functionality
    • Updating Employee Records: Keep employee records up-to-date with current information regarding job titles, salaries, benefits, and contact details.
    • Managing Employee Transactions and Queries: Handle all employee transactions such as promotions, transfers, and terminations, and respond to employee queries regarding HR policies and procedures.
    • Rehiring Process of Seasonal Workforce: Manage the rehiring process for seasonal employees, ensuring a smooth transition back into the workforce.
  • Employee Relations:
    • Serve as a mediator in resolving workplace conflicts and promote a positive work environment.
    • Provide guidance and support to management and staff on HR policies and procedures.
    • Facilitate communication between employees and management to address concerns and grievances.
  • Workplace Investigations:
    • Assist and conduct thorough workplace investigations on matters such as, but not limited to misconduct, harassment, or other workplace issues.
    • Ensure investigations are carried out with discretion, fairness, and in compliance with legal and company standards.
    • Prepare detailed reports and recommend appropriate actions based on investigation findings.
  • Collective Bargaining Agreements:
    • Assist HRBP in negotiating terms and conditions of employment with union representatives.
    • Working with the payroll team to ensure timely implementation and administration of terms negotiated in collective bargaining agreements with the necessary software systems.
    • Stay informed on labour relations trends and changes in legislation that may impact the organization.
  • Financial Management:
    • Manage Accountable Payables: Oversee the processing of invoices (Benefits, Pensions etc) and payments for the HR department, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial policies.
    • Assist in the development and local management of recruitment budget for responsible areas of work.
  • Compliance and Safety:
    • WorkSafe BC Compliance: Handle HR related compliance of Worksafe BC’s regulations.
    • Policy Development: Write HR policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance and best practices.

Main Responsibilities

  • Benefits Administration:
    • Administer Benefits & Pension Policy: Manage the employee benefits program, including enrollment, claims resolution, and communication of benefits information.
    • Retirement Planning: Provide support and guidance to employees on pension plans and retirement options.
  • Talent Management:
    • Independently or with the support of the Human Resource Coordinator, deploy appropriate recruitment tactics aimed to fill job vacancies in a timely and appropriate manner.
    • Recruitment: Manage the recruitment process from job posting to onboarding new hires.
    • Employee Relations: Serve as a point of contact for employee concerns and facilitate conflict resolution.
  • Training and Development:
    • Professional Growth: Implement training programs that align with company goals and employee career paths.
    • Performance Management: Oversee the performance review process and provide constructive feedback to employees.
  • Strategic HR:
    • Organizational Development: Contribute to the development of HR strategies that support the company’s goals.
    • Change Management: Assist in managing organizational change to ensure a smooth transition for employees.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5years of experience in an HR role, with a preference for experience in the construction industry or related industry.
  • Comprehensive understanding of HR practices, labour legislation, and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in JDE or similar ERP software and/or SuccessFactors with a strong aptitude for learning new systems considered a strong asset
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.

Compensation Data

The anticipated range for this position is $77,000 - $86,000 annually. The final compensation package will be determined based on factors including the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
