Junior Project Manager

Role Description

Reporting to the Manager, Business Solutions Delivery the Junior Project Manager is responsible for ensuring that the projects assigned to achieve the planned business objectives and value. The Junior Project Manager also leads change within the organization and may manage a portfolio of projects for a Department/Team. The role builds, communicates and manages project plans and ensures that risks are identified and understood, and that changes are managed effectively. In addition, the Junior Project Manager participates in the Support process for Applications supported by the Business Solutions Delivery team.

Core Responsibilities

Solution Definition

  • Facilitate, define and communicate the business case for a project or idea. This includes defining the business need, determining costs and capturing both the quantifiable and unquantifiable benefits.
  • Perform research and analysis for potential solutions to business needs.
  • Assess the fit of available applications and propose adaptation of existing software for particular uses.
  • Identifies and implements innovative and creative solutions to business problems.
  • Exhibit knowledge of emerging industry practices when solving business problems.

Project Management

  • Leads up to small-sized, small-complexity technology projects.
  • Leads small-sized, small-complexity technology project teams through each phase of the project.
  • Identifies and puts in place required project resources (i.e. team members, tools, methods) for small-sized, small-complexity technology projects.
  • Estimates project effort and where required, creates and manages the project budget.
  • Identifies and resolves all issues and risks on the project.
  • Manages all changes to small-sized, small-complexity technology projects.
  • Manages all project-related documentation for small-sized, small-complexity technology projects.
  • Supports up to medium-sized, medium-complexity technology projects under the supervision of a Senior Project Manager or Project Manager.
  • Defines and scopes projects correctly.
  • Ensures that the business case is well defined and understood.
  • Plans, schedules and coordinates project activities.

Change Management and Operational Handover

  • Applies a structured change management methodology and executes change management activities.
  • Assesses the impact of change.
  • Identifies, analyses, and prepares risk mitigation tactics for change.
  • Identifies and manages anticipated resistance within assigned projects and supports Senior Project Manager or Project Manager as requested for projects they are supporting.
  • Creates actionable change management deliverables such as operational handover plans, communications plan, sponsor roadmap, coaching plan, training plan and resistance management plan.
  • Plans, coordinates and supports organizational communication efforts.
  • Plans, coordinates and supports training efforts.
  • Integrates change management activities into project plan.
  • Evaluates and ensures Team Member readiness.
  • Defines and measures success metrics and monitors change progress.

Project Communication

  • Effectively communicates with executive management, sponsors and project stakeholders.
  • Creates, communicates and maintains the project plan.
  • Provides regular updates and estimates of effort and communicates issues and status information promptly.
  • Manages and facilitates various meetings for small-sized, small-complexity technology projects or medium-sized, medium-complexity technology projects under the supervision of a Senior Project Manager or Project Manager.
  • Works effectively at all levels of the Organization.

Team Leadership

  • Assists others in the performance of their duties as required.
  • Leads cross-functional small sized project teams that include technical, business and vendor stakeholders.

Process

  • Participates in the definition of processes, methods, tools and standards for project management at Kal Tire.
  • Liaises with other teams to coordinate interdependencies and improve processes.

Work Experience

  • Experience managing or supporting small to medium-sized projects for medium to large enterprises.
  • 0-2 years of experience working in information systems for medium to large enterprises with complex technology environments.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Experience with a variety of project management processes, techniques, tools and standards.
  • Experience with all aspects of project management and phases of projects.
  • Proven ability to implement appropriate project management processes that include involvement of business, technical and vendor stakeholders.
  • Must be able to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and have strong organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and work well across functions.
  • Demonstrates the capacity to manage changing priorities and ambiguity while remaining calm and controlled.
  • Demonstrates competence in key areas of management and leadership expertise including: relationship management, communication, team direction and motivation, quality management, risk management, and the achievement of targets.

Education

  • Post-secondary graduate with a degree, diploma or certificate in computer science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Special Requirements

  • Vernon-Based
  • Occasional travel to Kal Tire locations.
  • Evening and occasional weekend work required.
  • A valid BC driver’s license.
