POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the After School Program Supervisor the Early Childhood Educator (ECE) provides education and development services to children ages 5-12. The Early Childhood Educator is a part of the Community Services team, and works specifically in the After School Program.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- BC License to practice as an Early Childhood Educator
- Evidence of level of compliance with the BC provincial immunization and tuberculosis control program required by licensing.
- Training in Ages and Stages Questionnaires preferred
- Minimum 2 years Early Childhood Educator experience (preferred)
- Previous experience working with children ages 5-12
- Administration experience (preferred)
- Experience working with First Nations children (preferred)
- Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered
REQUIREMENTS
- Valid First Aid with CPR Level C
- Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record
- Valid Food Safe Certificate (preferred)
- TB Screen is required annually/ immunization records
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, with results acceptable to WFN
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES
- Develops and provides excellent curriculum-based programing for the children that promotes Okanagan culture and language, school readiness, health & nutrition, and social support (connecting families with resources within the WFN community).
- Assists in keeping records as pertinent to the program i.e. Attendance, Incidence, Fire Drill, etc.
- Follows policies and procedures as outlined by the Ministry in accordance with licensing policies and WCDC policies
- Assists in preparing and providing nutritious snacks for the children
- Promotes health and hygiene, to prevent the spread of illness, by following best practices for hand washing, food preparation and by implementing regular cleaning routines (sanitization of toys, kitchen, and other surfaces)
- Keeps a neat and organized work environment
- Meets and greets parents and guests in a professional manner
- Communicates with the parent and provides written and oral communication regarding all incidences both positive and negative
- Updates professional qualifications in a timely manner
- Enhances personal skills as part of professional development
- Supports the Family Program and Early Years Department
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Westbank First Nation policies, standards, and procedures, and as assigned by the After School Program Supervisor
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proficient working with a wide range of technology systems and adapting to new tools quickly
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal qualities, including integrity, patience, empathy, and the ability to effectively engage and support children
- Excellent communication and public relations skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with families, colleagues, and the community
- Ability to work with little direction
- Able to work individually and as part of a team
- Knowledge of Westbank First Nation Community (WFN)
- Working knowledge of support services in the WFN Community
