About the workplace

As a Test Engineer for Core Banking, you bring critical analytical skills and domain expertise to Vancity’s core banking solutions. You translate business requirements into effective test scenarios, execute tests efficiently, and provide clear, evidence-based results. You’re experienced in defect tracking, root cause analysis, and maintaining automated test scripts in complex IT environments. A strong communicator, you confidently report on testing progress and thrive in fast-paced, cross-functional teams with a member-first mindset.

This is a permanent, full-time role that will enjoy hybrid working arrangements which can be fulfilled primarily from the Vancity head office location and your Lower Mainland based home office. This role may require you to work on-site at least once a week.

A typical day would involve:

  • Act as a subject matter expert on quality assurance for core banking and interfaces.
  • Analyze requirements, create test scenarios and test cases, and build test data.
  • Execute functional and regression testing, capture test evidence, and provide detailed results.
  • Manage defects and collaborate with stakeholders to analyze and resolve issues.
  • Support and coordinate with the business team for User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • Provide quality assurance support in analyzing and resolving production issues.
  • Monitor and report on test progress, results, defects, and issues to stakeholders.
  • Offer quality assurance expertise, advice, and recommendations to mitigate risks.
  • Write SQL queries and scripts to retrieve and validate data.
  • Design, develop, execute, and maintain automated test scripts.
  • Support the test automation framework and run automated test cycles.
  • Run automated test suites and investigate identified issues.
  • Collaborate with other quality assurance team members.
  • Work closely with development teams, vendors, release management, operations, and infrastructure teams.

You have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • 2-3 years of experience in software quality assurance within large, complex, and highly integrated technology environments, preferably in the financial industry or core banking systems.
  • 1-2 years of hands-on experience testing web, mobile, API and back-end applications.
  • Possess 1-2 years of experience in test automation, with hands-on expertise in automation tools such as C++, Selenium, Dapper, SpecFlow (with BDD), Appium, Sauce Labs, Xcode, JMeter, and Splunk.
  • SQL skills and experience with data analytics, as well as integration tools such as MuleSoft.
  • Familiarity with Windows scripting languages, including PowerShell, JScript, and VBScript.
  • Ability to analyze requirements, design test cases, and evaluate test results effectively.
  • Experience with system and software integration across multiple vendor platforms.

Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience with Digital banking applications will be considered a plus.
  • Experience with CRM applications will be considered a plus
  • Experience leading other quality assurance team members in a project setting will be considered a plus.
  • Experience with performance and load testing will be considered a plus.
  • Experience with owning test environment, will be considered a plus
  • Experience in Agile development in an Azure DevOps environment will be considered a plus.
  • Testing certifications such as ISTQB or similar will be considered a plus.
  • Experience in the financial industry is not required but highly desirable, preferably in retail banking.

The salary range for this role is $64,500 to $96,500 annually. Base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards package, employees may also be eligible for our annual incentive program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
