Chief Financial Officer, North Atlantic

St. John’s, NL

North Atlantic is seeking a strategic, commercially astute, and future-oriented Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead enterprise finance across a multinational, operationally complex organization at a time of significant transformation and growth.

The Company

North Atlantic is a vertically integrated energy company headquartered in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, with operations spanning refining, marine transportation, fuel distribution, green energy and retail. We deliver safe, reliable, and sustainable energy solutions across local and international markets. Our anticipated acquisition of a European refinery and planned green hydrogen project reflects our global growth strategy and our pursuit of innovation in both traditional and transitional energy domains. As we expand our footprint and capabilities, our commitment to integrity, performance, and responsible energy leadership remains unchanged.

The Role

Reporting to the President and CEO and serving as a key member of the executive leadership team, the CFO is accountable for the overall financial stewardship of the company. This is a rare opportunity to help lead a growing, capital-intensive business with global operations and a deep local presence.

The CFO will shape and implement financial strategy aligned with North Atlantic’s business goals, growth priorities, and evolving regulatory and stakeholder expectations. This role requires more than financial acumen. It demands strategic foresight, operational discipline, and the ability to navigate complex environments while fostering a culture of performance, accountability, and partnership.

In the immediate term, the CFO will focus on building and codifying financial processes, modernizing systems, supporting integration of new assets and business lines, strengthening oversight of consolidated reporting across geographies, and preparing the organization for scale. Establishing stronger financial infrastructure and controls across the enterprise is critical. The new refinery will be a key area of focus both now and well into the future.

The CFO will have full financial oversight across all related companies. This includes responsibility for complex financial structures involving promissory notes, equity investments, and joint ventures. The role also demands cross-functional agility. North Atlantic operates under the Public Utilities Board and spans sectors such as trucking, retail, and refining. The successful candidate will be comfortable managing diverse operations, pivoting quickly across business areas, and leading through ambiguity.

The CFO must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic culture and prepared to support related matters. Oversight of the France-based finance team is also part of the portfolio. While the team produces consolidated financials, the CFO is responsible for overall alignment and financial integrity. International growth has significantly expanded the scope of this role.

This is an opportunity for a finance leader with experience in high-growth or not-yet-fully-established environments. Someone who understands how to bring structure to complexity without stifling momentum. This is an environment where leadership is defined by adaptability. challenge.

Ensure compliance with IFRS and applicable regulations in Canada and the EU. Lead oversight of international trade finance and importation-related documentation and risk mitigation.

Team Leadership and Culture Building: Lead a high-performing finance team with a focus on development, collaboration, and accountability. Promote cross-functional understanding of financial performance and foster a culture of transparency and strategic partnership.

The Ideal Candidate

You are an accomplished finance executive with experience in complex, capital-intensive, and growth-oriented organizations. You have worked across borders, led through integration, and built the structure needed to support scale. You understand regulatory complexity and bring both the rigor of financial discipline, and the vision required to drive innovation. You lead with clarity, act with confidence, and value collaboration over control. You are motivated by challenge, unfazed by ambiguity, and driven to help build something enduring.
