The Director, Sourcing – Bakery role offers a coveted opportunity to join Canada’s best buying team, a group of outstanding sourcing professionals accountable for purchasing billions of dollars of products and services for more than 3,000 stores across Canada.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Sourcing – Deli Cheese, Home Meal Replacement & Bakery (DHB), this position will lead a team of three Buyers and one Associate Buyer. The responsibilities will encompass every aspect of bakery sourcing, including domestic and offshore buying, supplier relationship and performance management, global Request for Proposals (RFPs), enterprise cost negotiations, supply resilience management, quality management, supplier onboarding, and so much more. This role will also provide rich insights to the business on supplier capabilities, cost inflation trends, demand forecasting and production planning, commodity cost and supply trends, competitive cost benchmarking, and product innovation areas.

What You Will Do:
- Source product requirements for baseline and promotional volumes leveraging Loblaw’s enterprise scale to enable better value for customers.
- Direct your team with sourcing strategies that align to enterprise playbooks.
- Be fully accountable for the team’s financial obligations, with ownership over cost and savings targets within the DHB sourcing budget.
- Cultivate positive, strategic relationships with our suppliers and all external partners.
- Facilitate all major costing negotiations.
- Evaluate new products and/or platforms and work with the Loblaw Brands team and Trade Divisions on program sourcing for our private labels.
- Collaborate with our Supply Chain Replenishment and Transport teams to resolve product availability challenges and fulfilment obstacles.
- Research the competitive landscape of the bakery category and maintain industry benchmarking standards on assortment, costing, global sourcing strategies, quality specifications and emerging technological innovation.
- Support and lead supplier-facing enterprise initiatives as required.
- Provide supportive leadership for your team to maximize and accelerate their performance, facilitating but positive business outcomes and a positive team culture.
- Proudly represent the fresh team within the wider Sourcing community.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director or Chief Sourcing Officer.
- A curiosity-first mentality; and positive, self-motivated demeanor.
- A passion for food; especially bakery products!
- Post-secondary education in business or supply management; or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years in a procurement, supply chain or retail merchandising role.
- Analytical approach to decision making – with proven ability to generate insights from multiple sources of financial, technical, industry and marketing data.
- Demonstrated financial acumen and experience managing profit and loss (P&L).
- Well-developed influencing and relationship-management skills with a winsome, kind, and generous communication style.
- Empathetic and empowering leadership style with effective colleague development and professional mentoring skills.
- An ability to prioritize multiple urgent projects at the same time.
- Strong technical skills in Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint and productivity apps (Teams, To-Do, and Planner.)
