We are looking for a talented Drafting and Design Technologist to join our team. This role is well-suited for individuals with a diploma in Mechanical or Civil Engineering Technology from NAIT, SAIT, or a comparable post-secondary institution. Candidates should bring hands-on experience using Autodesk Inventor and/or SolidWorks to support the design and detailing of architectural or industrial components.


You will contribute to the successful execution of fabrication/welding and manufacturing projects in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Your technical expertise, creativity, and precision will directly impact our ability to deliver high-quality work.


Key Responsibilities

  • Create detailed 2D and 3D models and drawings using Autodesk Inventor
  • Produce accurate shop drawings, layout plans, and assembly instructions for fabrication and installation
  • Interpret architectural and engineering plans, specifications, and site conditions
  • Collaborate closely with project leads and fabrication teams to ensure constructability and accuracy
  • Revise and redline drawings based on input from internal stakeholders or external consultants
  • Support the development of drafting standards and maintain design documentation and libraries
  • Offer practical solutions to design challenges, including custom layouts and connection details


Qualifications

  • Diploma in Mechanical, Civil, or Engineering Design Technology (NAIT, SAIT, or equivalent)
  • 0–2+ years of drafting and design experience in architectural, mechanical, or civil fields
  • Proficient with Autodesk Inventor and/or SolidWorks
  • Understanding of shop drawings and fabrication workflows
  • Familiarity with welding symbols, processes, and general manufacturing techniques
  • Mechanically inclined with a strong eye for detail
  • Ability to manage deadlines in a production-driven environment
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to problem-solving


Assets

  • Experience in architectural metals, structural steel, or custom fabrication
  • Knowledge of fabrication processes and material behaviors (e.g., steel, aluminum, powder coating)
  • Experience with REVIT, general construction environments, or shop-floor collaboration
  • Exposure to design-build environments or conceptual design work
  • Familiarity with equipment and processes such as CNC lasers, press brakes, rolling/forming, punching, galvanizing, and finishing systems
