Helping Hands Society of Cochrane and Area (HHSCA) is a volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to building a stronger, more connected community by mobilizing volunteers to support individuals and families in need. Our programs address food insecurity, isolation, and access to essential services throughout Cochrane and the surrounding areas of Rocky View County. We work collaboratively with partners, donors, and volunteers to create meaningful local impact through practical help, compassion, and community care.

This role plays a vital part in supporting and growing that volunteer community, ensuring we remain connected, responsive, and ready to help wherever we’re needed. We’re searching for a passionate and people-focused team member who brings energy, creativity, and a heart for community service. The ideal candidate will bring a mix of experience and enthusiasm to help us grow and support our incredible team of volunteers. Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with our Program Managers, you will help strengthen and expand our volunteer network by focusing on the entire volunteer cycle and leading our community engagement efforts. It’s a dynamic opportunity to build meaningful relationships and make a direct contribution to the impact of our mission.

 

Role’s objective and responsibilities:

 

Volunteer Management:

 

  • Maintain a strong and steady volunteer pipeline by actively recruiting, screening, onboarding, engaging and retaining volunteers.
  • Collaborate with Program Managers to ensure volunteer roles and responsibilities remain current, identify new opportunities and support the promotion of priority opportunities.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers, sharing important updates and announcements, and responding to inquiries, feedback, and concerns with care and clarity.
  • Keep the volunteer database accurate and up-to-date.
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, plan and implement strategies to recognize, engage, and celebrate our volunteers throughout the year; prepare volunteer programs, activity proposals, and reports as needed.
  • Design and administer surveys, focus groups, and other tools to gather feedback and continuously improve the volunteer experience.
  • Maintain volunteer manuals, policies and guidelines and in line with industry best practices.
  • Prepare and present statistical and narrative reports on volunteer program outcomes.

 

Community Engagement:

  • Coordinate and participate in local events and outreach activities to raise awareness about Helping Hands’ programs and services, and inspire new volunteer involvement.
  • Proactively identify, track, evaluate and liaise with community events and opportunities in Cochrane and surrounding areas that align with the organization’s mission and engagement goals.

 

Here’s What Will Make You a Great Fit:

 

  • Post-secondary education in Volunteer Management, Human Services or a related field.
  • 1 to 3 years of hands-on experience in volunteer coordination, customer service, or a similar people-centered role.
  • Experience in the non-profit sector is a strong asset.
  • Skilled at designing and delivering engaging onboarding and training experiences for adults.
  • Comfortable navigating and maintaining large, complex databases.
  • Familiarity with Better Impact or similar volunteer or client management platforms is a plus.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office and Google Workspace tools to stay organized and efficient.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities to juggle multiple priorities.
  • A proactive self-starter who takes initiative and works well independently.
  • Great with people, possessing strong communication and interpersonal skills, and comfortable speaking to a room or in one-on-one settings.
  • Professional and friendly communication skills by phone and email.

 

Qualifications & Licenses

  • Ability to obtain a clear RCMP Vulnerable Sector and Criminal Record Check, to be maintained throughout employment. Clear Vulnerable Sector and Criminal Record Check obtained in the last 12 months will be accepted as well.
  • Fluency in English (oral and written) is mandatory.


This is a permanent part-time position (25 hours per week) with an hourly compensation of $25 and extended healthcare benefits after successfully completing the benefits waiting period. This position may be expanded to a full-time role in the future, contingent upon business needs and funding availability. This position is expected to work in the office on a regular schedule, Monday through Friday, with occasional opportunities for work-from-home arrangements.
