How your role will add to the story:
We are looking for a high-performing and detail-obsessed Senior Payroll Specialist to lead payroll operations for our corporate teams at Mercedes-Benz Canada (MBC) and Mercedes-Benz Financial Services (MBFS). You will oversee end-to-end payroll processing, lead system initiatives, own year-end compliance, and serve as a key advisor on all payroll-related matters. From testing new platforms to reconciling complex compensation - if it touches payroll, you are on it.
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll Leadership & Operations (30%)
- Responsible for processing multi-provincial payrolls for MBC.
- Review and validate payroll inputs received from HR and other departments for accuracy and reasonability
- Respond to payroll inquiries from managers and employees; provide pay-related data, interpret compensation plans, and clarify pay components, deductions, and tax forms
- Transmit payroll files to the bank in a timely and secure manner
- Troubleshoot payroll system and time & attendance issues and resolve daily inquiries with professionalism and urgency
Project and system implementation (30%)
- Lead payroll initiatives related to new system implementations and updates, with a focus on Dayforce configuration
- Represent Payroll in daily meetings with third-party vendors; ensure timely and complete delivery of data
- Coordinate with PeopleSoft on payroll reporting, system issues, year-end processing, and T4 generation
- Guide payroll team members through testing and validation processes to ensure systems align with Mercedes-Benz policies and legislative compliance
- Act as the payroll lead for Dayforce-related system upgrades; ensure project milestones, testing, and policy alignment are fully met
Tax Compliance & Year-End (15%)
- Perform full reconciliation of taxable benefits and payroll taxes across jurisdictions
- Remit payments to CRA and Revenu Québec on time to avoid penalties and interest charges
- Manage communication and coordination with the CRA for tax inquiries, audits, and requests related to T4s or taxable benefits
- Liaise with internal teams to ensure accurate year-end data and filings
- Lead the execution and documentation of ICS controls related to payroll processes, ensuring compliance and audit readiness.
Statutory Filing (20%)
- Prepare and file all legislative year-end documents including T4, T4A, T2200, and RL-1 forms accurately and by deadline
Continuous Improvement & Documentation (5%)
- Maintain and update payroll Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); create new documentation to address process gaps
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance payroll accuracy, efficiency, and compliance
- Actively support system issue troubleshooting, upgrades, and process changes

Mercedes-Benz Star skills, requirements & traits:
- 5+ years of Canadian full-cycle payroll experience, including multi-provincial payroll processing
- Experience leading payroll processes in a corporate environment - ideally in automotive, OEM, or financial services
- Strong understanding of federal/provincial payroll legislation, taxable benefits, and year-end reporting
- Demonstrated experience in payroll system testing, UAT, and Dayforce (or similar) implementations
- Proven ability to coordinate with internal and external stakeholders such as HR, PeopleSoft, CRA, and third-party vendors
- Advanced Excel skills (vlookups, pivot tables, reconciliations)
- PCP certification required; CPM is an asset
- Excellent communication skills, with a proactive and problem-solving mindset
