Summary Of Duties, But Not Limited To

  • RN will play a role in supporting individuals in the treatment and management of their Osteoporosis and/or Osteoarthritis through ongoing assessment, teaching and counseling
  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care from a chronic disease lens especially patients with a MSK condition, in compliance with the scope of practice
  • Ensures relevant test results have been received and reviewed
  • Has a knowledge base and exposure to patients who require care and education with respect to receiving biologics and other advanced therapies such intravenous bisphosphonates and anabolic therapies
  • Will co-ordinate care for patients scheduled to receive biologics, intravenous bisphosphonates infusions or anabolic therapies
  • Access and assess status on patient’s critical reports such as pathology, and other important lab results
  • Assists with administering Vitamin D protocols and other treatment protocols
  • Ensure that patients have completed necessary pre- and post-treatment labwork as outlined in treatment protocols. This includes pre-biologic investigations and vaccinations and paperwork to access biologics.
  • Teach patients on self-administration of injections related to therapy.
  • Liaise with treating physicians to ensure a timely and smooth transition to biologic therapies
  • Receives patients, obtains and documents nursing assessment, as applicable
  • identifies and prioritizes for the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of the patient with a chronic disease
  • Provides care, resources and information in a compassionate and caring manner within a diverse cultural environment
  • Assist physician with joint aspiration ensure aseptic technique is used in set up of equipment and specimen collection.
  • Collaborates with other members of the health care team to ensure standards of care and practice are met
  • Liaises with the community to facilitate the continuity of patient care
  • Delegates and assigns clinical tasks to the appropriate provider as necessary
  • Acts as a mentor, coach, clinical resource, consultant, and facilitates all activities to promote excellence of care

Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is required
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a hospital setting with medical inpatient experience strongly preferred
  • Previous experience in the field of Osteoporosis/Osteoarthritis is an asset
  • Additional experience in an outpatient clinic setting is an asset
  • BCLS certification required
  • Excellent physical assessment, critical thinking and problem-solving skills required
  • Strong communication skills required
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment
  • Demonstrated record of good performance and acceptable attendance will be considered as part of the selection criteria
