SUMMARY:

The Royal Canadian Yacht Club (RCYC) is seeking qualified and engaging Swim Instructors to join our Aquatics Team. This role is responsible for ensuring the safety of all Members and guests using our pool and splash pad facilities. Lifeguards play a key role in enforcing pool rules, responding to emergencies, and maintaining a clean and organized pool environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Instruction of swim classes as assigned, with the use of the accompanying core lesson plans
  • Ensure that classes are well-organized and effectively delivered (i.e., starting and ending classes on time, screening participants on the first lesson, and providing appropriate feedback as requested)
  • Completion of required daily program administration, including but not limited to: Maintaining accurate class lists and worksheets- Attendance, Report Cards, etc.
  • Supervise the pool, splash pad, and deck areas to prevent accidents and ensure safety.
  • Enforce Club and provincial pool safety regulations (Reg. 565).
  • Perform water rescues and administer first aid as needed.
  • Ensure all safety equipment is readily available and operational.
  • Maintain a professional presence and remain vigilant while on duty.
  • Report concerns, incidents, or injuries to the Fitness & Aquatics Manager.
  • Assist with other aquatics or Club duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING?

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Valid National Lifeguard (NLS) Certification (required).
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C (required).
  • AED Certification (required).
  • Strong communication, observation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Professional, dependable, and calm in emergency situations.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to Swim and supervise students in the water for at least 30 minutes to an hour.
  • Able to lift and assist swimmers or equipment as needed.


HOURS OF WORK:

  • Must be available for flexible shifts including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Schedule varies based on operational and seasonal needs.
